So first impressions on the string set that I got:
Huge midrange loss. It's mostly telling in my clean sound. There is a lot less grunt and volume. Very plinky sounding. I'm not sure if I like them. Suggestions on strings that are a little bit louder or have a little less scoop to them?

Aside from how quickly they corrode, Ernie Ball cobalts are great in terms of loudness and actually have quite a big mid-push.
These are what I have resorted to at the moment as the only strings I can locally source until I can really get the ball rolling with an online supplier and order like 10 sets, they don't corrode as easily as standard nickel EB strings, but still quicker than any set of D'Addario's I ever owned.

Wow I guess I'm the only dean markley guy here. I use the light top heavy bottom set and I think the strings I use for the octaves are rouge which I started using just for the bulk sets of individual strings.
I used to be extremely heavy handed and went with these solely for durability. The rouge's are ok, just generic strings and dont overpower the dean markleys.
I tune to C standard with a 12 string in case anyone is wondering wtf I'm talking about with octaves and shit

I figured you used flatwounds from your vids, only played them on a Vintage V once but the dampened tone is unmistakable.
I'd like to set up a hollow body for jazz with some one day, but as far as main tone I have come to rely on switching attack from angled for more grit to flat for more body.
It's cool that you prefer them over round wound, everyone I have ever talked with about them either hates them or has no clue what they are.
for me its mostly a feel thing and that I could also bump up my treble to compensate for the darker (if you like it) or duller (if you dont) tone.

well i should have been more specific. That is a custom set I make up, take the 56-13, dump the 13 and buy 1 70 from juststrings or what have you.

There are also half-rounds but I really didnt like them, i liked them less then regular roundwounds.

i use the e.b cobalts not even slinkys
but im switchin to circle k
i can already tell they hold up to more abuse
and they sound just as good
the cobalts did last longer for me corrosionwise
and sounded better than reg e.b.s

To throw in my 2 cents I currently use naked strings. They are a great price and allow me to put together a custom set for my seven strings. I use 11 to 70 right now with the semi hollow 25" scale. It has a wound G string. I just ordered another set but with the 7th and 6th strings a bit lower in gauge for my new seven string baritone. I tried putting on a set of what I currently have and the lower stings feel a bit too tight on the longer scale. The only thing that bothers me about the naked strings is for the 7th string. It skips from .070 to .060 with no in-between. So I may try a set of the circle k's next time around if the .060 is too loose.

All this talk of flats has me thinking I should try a set, Might cure some of the Brightness issues, I kind of hate dialing signal out of the eq, I'd rather have it all up.

I hate flats. I just dislike everything about them. sound dead to me and feel like sticks and give no bending response. The smoothness is cool though ill give em that.
I have the most horrendous body chemistry ever and pure acid pours out of me while I play. I can rust a set of strings in about 2 hours or less. and they smell gross too. Ive tried pretty much everything and they all suck equally just in different ways. Ive never used circle K on guitar so ill give them a shot but so far I just use DR or dadarrio /.13-60 for C standard down to Bflat. and I use an .80 for A or G#. .10 ghs boomers on standard and .11 on E flat. occasionally i try ernie balls again, i swap around.
I burn through them so fast i just buy the boomers for the cheapnessss. Also Elixers last a liiiitle longer but sound kinda poopy but I keep those on the guitars That spend their time in the case so the sets decent if i ever pull it out.
Have yet to try the cleartones though will look into those.

DUDE!!!!!! Good to see ya!!!!

In string news I just ordered some D'addario .12-.60 Drop C strings for my Epi V which I will be putting in C standard tuning so I can play some Sleep worship. Also incoming is a new nut and some black covered 90's Epi medium output humbuckers (10$ !!! ) so I can keep the guitar all black and get my classic doom tones. I love the Iommi in it for certain stuff but its too high output for what I'm going for.
