Trent Reznor strikes me as the kind of rich guy that flies to thailand and chews the nipples off underage prostitutes. That doesnt mean Im not a fan of his music, though...

Ok I lied, I really do like Everything. It's pretty damn catchy.
Listening to tracks I haven't heard before today, I'm really digging the large rhythm emphasis over everything.

Yeah the more I heard Everything the more it sounds a lot less like Justin Timberlake and a lot more like Modern Guilt era Beck.

PS; you can find copies of Hesitation Marks on....

Well my Deluxe CD showed up early.

I like it but it sorta ... blindsided me? It's not what I was expecting.

All Time Low and Everything will probably go over better for me when my audiophile version unlocks because those songs are so loudness-war they hurt.

I'm one of those dudes who will like whatever Reznor puts out, but yeah this one kinda blindsided me a bit too. I ordered the vinyl for the hell of it htough.

so is there a concept behind this new album? do any of these songs have any particular meaning or are the lyrics just thrown-together fragments of ideas that lead to nowhere?

if it was a concept album i guess it would be really well known as in the past

There's quite a few songs that I like a lot already. it's weird that there exist so many 'classic nin' songs, and he keeps coming out with new ones that don't disappoint.

I'm pretty excited for the audiophile version, just to find out how big of a difference it'll be. I hope it's drastic (and better!) and get consumers to start pushing for less squished albums,

I don't think it is as big a difference as everyone is making it out to be. Just got the vinyl in the mail today.

Audiophile mix report: It's still compressed just not as much. Every song is bassier and the overall volume is lower. I still think the regular mix sounds fine but the audiophile mix is a little bit better.

Saw NIN last night and I can honestly say I'm getting old. God damn it. I was sooooooooooo fucking bored. The music was good except that Explosions in the Sky bullshit. Jesus those guys suck. 3 fucking guitars all with reverb and delay, no fucking drummer (drum machine) and one of the guitarist would hit a drum every once in awhile. NO BASS PLAYER. WUT??? Bitch you tripping. Plus the songs were like 9 minutes long and sounded like pure garbage. So disappointed in that band. I would have booed if there weren't so many drunk and stoned people around me.

Reznor's performance was tired and drab. I don't know what I expect, but I certainly was not wowed. I left an hour early because I was so fucking bored. I expected high energy and instead got a bunch of melodic bullshit. So fucking pissed off.

The worst things about the evening for me:
drunk stupid fucks getting up and down constantly to get more beer or to go to the bathroom
people smoking weed right next to me (yes I get it's a concert, but there is no fucking smoking at the venue and I'm tired of dumb asses who don't give a shit about how I feel about them using drugs around me)
the lack of energy from both bands
and the pa being WAY too fucking loud. I mean it was overkill how loud they had that shit.

Yeah I left How to destroy angels early when I saw them earlier this year... Just did not hold my attention even though I liked the album and ep a lot. The gf and I are considering going to the nin show in dc in a few weeks but I'm kinda concerned it'll be the same situation. And I used to be a complete rabid nin fanboi. I had a fantastic time when I saw them in like 2005 but most of his output since then has been pretty meh to me. I definitely am digging hesitaton marks though (just got it maybe 3 days ago).
