Really? Probably just me using dumb settings or something, it sounds really tinny and pathetic to me whenever I run it with fuzz. Maybe I should fix the blend knob and that's the problem (it doesn't do shit, which sounds fine clean but maaaaayyy be why it sounds awful with fuzz. I dunno).
I usually used mine at full blend. But I would not be entirely surprised if
1) there's wild variance in component values between our two pedals 2) we were using DRASTICALLY different settings. Because that pedal takes like, a degree to understand.
Also, the Holy Stain (especially when modded to access the other four effects) is pretty fun if you only use it for crazy noise. The expression pedal controlled pitch shifter plus shitty distortion being able to be on one footswitch is gnarly.
Modern EHX pedals don't suffer from the old days of component variances really any more, except maybe in the Big Muffs & Germanium pedals since the move to SMD. Which does perhaps spoil the fun a bit of unique units but with how guitars shops have changed, it's probably for the best I can order a product on line and know what i'm getting.
The Holy Stain was barely an EHX product... it was just the pre-programmed chip functions on an FV-1 so hate them instead (wave front? can't remember) + a fuzz face or something similar.

haha yeah I probably haven't really put in the time because I don't understand it like, even a little bit.
EDIT: totally just did some sperimentin and found awesome fuzz sounds. I think the problem is I don't know what I did to make it sound good so most times when I hook it up it doesn't.
ive been super impressed with digitech and malekko in the reverb department, but my old school big box holy grail still reigns supreme.
smmh is an incredible delay/looper for the money. bass big muff is crazy versatile and awesome. pulsar is my favorite tremolo (had a big box version and sold it, stupid). had a dmm with the built in cable and all, sold it (stupid).
EHX also does have some of the creepiest demo vids out there... probably the only thing topping them in weirdness is that one guy & his hideously annoying facial expressions while trying to show off...
"i'll do a demo vid of this pedal if you'll introduce me to your cute little kiddies..."
I'm late to the hate party, but yeah. Hate. I give EHX props for creating some rad, revolutionary stuff, and for having the balls to continuously put out new products without any apparent concern as to whether it will appeal to 3 guitarists or 3 million guitarists. So they're cool and all.
BUT... It seems there is always something with their pedals that is completely non-thought through and that ruins the user experience. Example: Metal Muff - really good fun pedal that delivered a huge variety of tones. With a whole knob and a whole stomp switch dedicated to boosting a set of frequencies that delivered an automatic sensation of wasps in your ears. And not in the good sense of having wasps in your ears. I mean it in the bad way. The "I'm 14 and have just discovered metallica and cranking knobs gives moar rad through my Peavey Rage" kinda way. Why? Or making a headphone amp without a speaker sim. Why? Making stuff that has odd power requirements. Putting a cap big enough to affect the treble content in bypass constantly in the signal path in the Nano LPB-1. The list goes on...

That’s quarter-assed at best.
