mellow gold will always be my favorite of his though. bought that on my 7th grade trip to DC when i couldn't buy it in ohio due to parental advisory age laws. couldn't in ohio but could in the nation's capital. so stupid.
Haven't listened to any Beck in a while. I remember only liking 3 or 4 songs off of Mellow Gold, but man those songs are awesome! My sister took me to see Beck on the Odelay tour. The Cardigans opened and they were boring as fuck. Needless to say, Beck was not boring as fuck.
I lived in Virginia when I was in 6, 7, and 8th grade. I tried to buy Tool- Opiate, the cashier blocked me. Cashier blocked me again when I tried to buy Megadeth- So Far So Good So What. It was supposed to be a B-day present for my friend, bitch!!!!!!!!! I successfully bought NIN- The Downward Spiral. The cashier was just a few years older than me and she was all like, "This is a great album, have fun with it!" I remember sneaking a few cd's by because the parental advisory sticker was on the plastic wrap instead of the cd case.
What's up with Beck's bass player being a scientologist, fuck that guy!
ugh re: scientology.
i love every track on mellow gold. only time i've gotten to see beck though was opening for the rolling stones in an obviously massive arena venue. it was pretty sweet though, he had the stage set up as a livingroom. favorite tracks though - fuckin' with my head, soul suckin' jerk, truckdrivin' neighbor downstairs & mutherfuker. awesome.
& damn that sucks that the cardigans were boring for you... i've never gotten to see them live, but i fucking love first band on the moon. gran turismo wasn't bad either...
I see what your getting at, but I disagree. Beck did not invent the 60's/mod/swingers/general grooviness/and anything that was or was not cheezy at the time(whether or not it was meant to cheezy)
Beck is awesome though!
Cardigans- I was a sophmore in highscool at the time. My taste in music was pretty narrow then. My feelings towards them may change if give them another chance. I've heard that song Love Fool? Way too many times though.
