Cheap small amp!

Post by Gregor Samsa »

I need a cheap small amp. I need an amp thats small enough that i can use it at home without killing my eardrums when i want to crank it to the point where it starts breaking up a bit. volume is not an issue when it comes to how loud it needs to be, i no longer play in a band, so it will only be competing with an ableton drumkit. Ive been looking at some of the smaller orange amps and the vox ac4tv because its really small and really affordable(i have no idea how it sounds). I play an avri jag, and im rocking a rat, reverb, a co pilot ringmod and some devis. so i would prefer an amp that can handle fuzz! but has some clarity to it too. I dont know if such and amp as im describing is out there for a reasonble price? maybe im to optimistic. Id apreciate any suggestions.

hm....
the thing is that if you want it to start breaking up without being too loud it's not gonna have much head room for fuzz, especially if it's gotta be tube. what immediately came to mind was the fender champ

5w, 6" speaker, pretty cute looking and cheap
but it's not the greatest fuzz amp....then again ive not had a good fuzz experience with anything below 20w (well the SS frontman 15 is nice actually)

Ok, so i guess i should stay over 20w then. Ive just started to get into fuzz, and its quite interesting. Still trying to get the SM on my shoegazer to cooperate, im really torn between two different aestethics at the moment, on one side its trebly and noisy fuzz like the DN and on the other hand, its dirty overdrive, like you find on the newest young widows album. The Carvin amps where a bit hard to find over here in scandinavia, but the others seemed to be available.

Oh...scandinavia....well then. Basically any 50 watt 2x12combo is going to be great for fuzz. even better if you can find something in the 4x10 100 watt range. If you want to know a secret...the roland jc120 is an AMAZING combo. I dont give a fuck what anyone says about solid state and all that shit...you can get some GREAT tones out of it and can usually find them used for CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP cause people are snobby assholes. Heres a link to the product pagez http://www.rolandus.com/products/produc ... ductId=249

EDIT: oh and you can totally kick this thing off the stage and hit it with guitars and shit cause theyre built like a brick shithouse!

The jc120 is ever the peoples amp. I used to really be able to clear out a room with that sucker.

:idk:
My friend's got one of these, and I really dig the sound of it. It's like, perfect volume for in your bedroom or in a chill jam session. And it sounds fantastic to my ears. And I use a Twin Reverb. But, I'uno.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

I never liked using my fuzz through my friends Valve Junior. It didn't pop out at all, the white spider sounded muddy, which never happens. It's a good amp to boost into overdrive though, sounds amazing. However not a good amp for fuzz, IMO.

:( Damn. I've really been thinking about getting one of those. I know there are some mods out there, but I haven't looked into them, or if they'd help.

There's always the 20w Epiphone Valve Senior. Has a 3 band EQ and what not for tone control.

Only tried a Blue Box and some other modulation/tremolo stuff with it. Didn't have my pedalboard, used my friends. So I'm not really sure how fuzz sounds through it, but the Blue Box sounded pretty fucking cool.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

True story. I lugged mine all aver Manhattan. And you can kick it for that spring rattling around sound! But if you're looking for something smaller you could try a JC 60. It's a 1x12. And I defy you to find a pedal it won't take.
