Anyone heard of/remember Jale? [revived, haha]

Post by Ghost Hip »

So this past summer I picked up a CD in our local used book store, it was a band named Jale, and the album Dreamcake.

They were a band that signed to Sub Pop around 94'. I popped it in my car again recently and it's such an amazing album. It makes me feel comfortable, and is one of very few female groups I can relate to.... I'm not usually one to label a band as "female" but it feels significant to me.

Anywho, has anyone heard of them? Remember them? There's not much info on them, even on youtube there's only their music video of "Not Happy" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndn7xYHvpdI

I do remember them! I played them quite a bit on my old indie/shoegaze college radio shows. Good stuff! Sadly, I never got the album for my own library, though - I should track that down again... hadn't thought of them in years.

Definitely worth buying, I wish I could find more video footage of them, especially live.

Have you listened to much Lush, PP? Their album "Gala" in particular strikes me as possibly being up your proverbial alley.

I'm checking them out right now, pretty cool band. Sounds like a band I'd like to cover and fuzz up a bit. Like Nirvana and the Vaselines.

What I really liked about Jale was the combination of Gazed Fuzz and chimey guitars. I was hoping the Pollyanna would be able to get the effect but it's not the right tone. :(

Yeah, older Lush is definitely more shoegaze-tastic than later rush...

I hear you on the combination of gated fuzz + guitar chime. Seems to me the kind of thing that could require a y-splitter and a two-amp setup to really do right... though maybe there is a pedal out there that can handle both in one... maybe that's one of the secret DE projects we've been hearing mini-hints about: a double-sided beast that gives you sparkle & fuzz simultaneously...

Of course, I'm just talking smack again, so that's really just complete and total conjecture bordering on libel...
