When going for a shoegaze sound I use two LINE 6 verbzillas (hall reverb on 'zilla 1 and octo on 'zilla 2) with EHX Memory Boy delay, sometimes doubled with a DD3 and then a DeviEver Hyperion on top - before that I was using a Shredmaster. Creates quite a big sound.

Tremolo fx often feature quite a bit in shoegaze music and of course if you want the My Bloody Valentine sound you strum whilst using the whammy bar (and a heap load more fx). Panda Riot have a similar sound to MBV - if lighter and a bit sweeter - and might be worth checking out.

I play shoegaze and post-rock so my gear may help, at least I hope. Ok so my gear is a 2010 Fender classic player Jazzmaster and a modded 1979 Fender Deluxe Reverb but any loud tube amp will do. Two amps for stereo would be great for shoegaze but I don't have the money for that now. The jazzmaster comes in handy for replicating the strumming while pushing down on the vibrato that MBV uses.

As you can see, I use lots of delay, here is how I use them:
First PS-3: Mode 7 inverse pitch shifting delay
Second PS-3: short delay or for normal pitch shifting
Sunny Day Delay: modulated delay with an analog voice, awesome with the RRR
Goodbye 24: speed up or reverse sounds, noisy but good
DD-7: used as a looper, long delay or reverse delay
RV-3: mode 11, or delays with reverb.

The RV-3 normally goes near the end of the chain, so I can place the RRR pre-dirt, which is awesome, but there is something wrong with it at the moment. The TAFM and polygrace are used for textural fuzzes, and I'm lacking the modulation I would prefer but I get the combinations of ambience I like. Pretty satisfied at the moment. Some of my favorites from both genres include MBV, Ride, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You black emperor, Russian circles, and Pelican. Nice gear! The DD-7 is a beauty but I do like my old DD-3, even if the hold function seems to have given up the ghost.
