Amp and cab question

Post by osbornkt »

So, I've got a Sovtek Mig 50, and built two cabinets to use it with, a 1x12 (8 ohms) and a 1x15 (8 ohms).

I'm wanting to run both cabs simultaneously. I know if I run them parallel I'd be running them out of the 4 ohm speaker out. But in theory, couldn't I run the 1x12 out of the 8 ohm jack and the 1x15 out of the 4 ohm jack if I wired an 8ohm resistor in parallel to the bass cab to make it run at 4 ohms?

Does that make any sense, or would it be better to just add another speaker jack to the 1x12 cab and run them in parallel? (amp 4ohm out>1x12>1x15).

What would you guys recommend?

I think that's what you should do. I wouldn't try to change the impedance of your speakers.

Perfect! That's what I'll do then.
Thanks, man!

No Problem.

One other solution would to have built one cabinet.

Yeah, one cab would have made sense now
I built them at separate times...Eventually I'll have a designated head for the 1x15, but for now I've only got the Sovtek to sufficiently power it.

Only having a Sovtek is not bad, not bad at all.

Just to chime in, I have a mig 50 and I run two 8 ohm cabs with it from the 4 ohm out. Each cab has the parallel jack so I run the head into one cab and from that cab to the other.

Nice!
I'm going to throw a parallel jack on my cabs tonight and get that running.
