I don't, at least not anymore.
It doesn't help that my taste varies from dirt cheap to Dumble expensive, and there's always that next score...

I also typically have to trade for things these days, which helps me move toward my goal of trimming the excess and economizing.
BUT THERE IS SO MUCH COOL STUFF, ESPECIALLY IN THIS LITTLE WORLD OF OURS :whoa:

It really is the golden age for anyone into this shiz.
But this isn't the world of our parents, where a single income household was enough to feed a family of 4 and still provide a life of leisure...

Save and Splurge.

For the JC-120 I repainted our entire basement. My first guitar and bass were gifts.

I buy mostly used, very few pieces of gear I own were bought brand new. 2 of the 6 guitars I have were bought new. On my board 3 of the 8 pedals were bought new and 2 I built. 2 of 5 amps I own were new. 1 of many many pieces of drum stuff were bought new.

Yah, let someone else buy it first and test it, broken in speakers and guitar necks are often times nicer than new ones, to me.

I don't buy lunch out. That's a pedal a month right there. I prioritise pedal gas over sneaker gas (haven't purchased sneakers in over 2 years). I own one pair of jeans. Etc. would it be nice to have another pair of jeans for a change? Yeah, but would I rather have a new pedal? Yes thank you! And so on.

I've cut down on all of my non essential spending. I literally price everything in pedals. Only thing I regularly buy out is coffee, but that's worth sacrificing some gear for.

I spent a shitload on gear back when my wife and I were both working and we didn't yet have a kid. I accumulated a shitload of pedals in that time. Ever since we had my son, I haven't really been adding new gear, I've mostly been selling a pedal to buy another one, that kind of thing. The only new gear I've bought since then were my Ric, which I only got the money to do when I left a job and they bought out a month and a half of vacation time I had saved up, and a few modular pieces that I bought with part of my tax return this year.

Also that untill recently I was unhappy with my setup and now it's where I had wanted it to be, and I can live with it. Could I get a nicer delay pedal? Yes. And a buffer? Yah. And some other stuff? Yes, but, I don't NEED those other things to play the music I want to play as of now. When I have the available cash will I upgrade eventually? Maybe.

That being said I spend a ton on Records, working in a Record Store it's really easy to spend $75 every other week, or even every week on vinyl, that's with the discount.

Definitely going to start doing this. "Do I want a delicious gyro, or a delay in a few weeks?"

I work full time

I don't buy anything new (so if I ever flip something I can do it for the same price)

I don't impulse buy, so everything I really need to think about

Selling all my old shitty records I never listen to on discogs so I always have a flow of "fun money" coming in

I don't really spend that much cash on gear tbqh
