How do you afford your GAS?

Post by IEatCats »

I see a ton of people on here with massive boards and always wonder how you guys manage it.

I'm thinking at this point that I'm going to start a gear fund and drop $10\week into a mason jar.

Word. I posted this almost immediately after waking up, and now realize its kind of a dumb question.

I use my scholarship/government student payments for GAS instead of paying off uni fees :erm:
Probably not the wisest choice

In college I used loan money, which I kind of regret looking back on. I could have easly spent that $5k paying off loans. The sad part is I barely have any of the stuff I spent that money on anymore either. Since I got married it's been a little trickier being able to afford stuff, I haven't been getting new stuff in hardly as much

Wrong forum? :?: Anyway, in uni I got a grant for my grades and didn't need it all so some went on gear, coupled with the money I made from gigging (which I think went 100% into gear lol). I'm about to start working properly and I'll see how much I can save. Might do the same thing as you, saving a certain amount each week/month I'm allowed to spend on gear.

. At this point I stopped buying gear, and the only time I will fund something is by selling something. It kinda sucks constantly flipping stuff, but it's kinda awesome always getting new stuff in.

Part-time work (I keep half for university, have the rest to spend) and selling off gear I don't really use/like on Kijiji.

Yea being poor sucks. I need a cheap bass for my solo stuff (squier vm jaguar, im looking at you), so that is next on my list. Not really gassing for it. I'd rather spend my money on guitar toys. Then someone puts a Fuck Mountain in the B/S/T, which i have been wanting hard. Thankfully someone bought that quick. So then i check my local craigslist and someone has a Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster for $220. So yea being poor sucks. I stash all my change and my singles at the end of the day which generates about $100 a month. I just keep telling myself "i need a bass, i need a bass..."

Edit: That ILF Day Delay hasn't helped my situation. Buy that shit up so i dont have to think about it anymore.

I work my ass off and I still don't have much to spend on gear. Lately I have been cutting down on buying books ( my other addiction) and showing pictures of myself hanging off roofs to my wife and telling her "look I deserve something that relaxes me" and it actually has been working!
