Not at all.
I've been put off certain guitars by other guitarists playing them, just as much as I was inspired to buy certain guitars by other guitarists
A long time ago, I was a Les Paul man, owning a black Epi LP, because one of my favourite guitarists, James Dean Bradfield from the Manic Street Preachers, always played a Les Paul. Then, here in the UK, The Darkness hit big, and both guitarists played LPs. Put me right off them, and took me years before I could even look at one.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen. For a fleeting time, this idiot fronted one of the UK's biggest bands. To the degree he had a very limited run of a signature Les Paul like the one in the above picture. Goes without saying, not as cool as Pagey. Thankfully common sense and they disappeared rather quickly, although Justin Hawkins is still making music.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey... stuff.

Watching the trailer again, The bit where The Edge plays "Elevation" with the effects switched off reminded me of something...

I never realised how spot on that clip was until now.

I spent a day as their personal security guard in Toronto a few years back. I expected them to be pretentious douches but they were really nice guys. It was hilarious that to prepare for singing in a falsetto the singer spent the hour before the show singing "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins in the deepest baritone voice you've ever heard.
Back on topic. I'm so happy my city is finally gettign a proper showing of It Might Get Loud. Hoping to see it next week when I'm on vacation.

It still isn't running at cinemas in my area, so I guess I'll have to wait for the DVD...
