as far as the tone settings, i find that the tone all the way off and high knob all the way up and the lo/hi switch set to High gets a really nice mid heavy fuzz that cuts through the mix really well.

Dude, that all sounds fucking great. Especially for a prac recording.Nostradoomus wrote:mountainriser.bandcamp.com The track on there is HM2 into BF. Pretty gnarly tones! Ignore the vocals, I'm still "finding it" lol
How d'ya find working in a two piece? I think I might end up in a simialr situation soon and I thought it's be cool to hear it from someone doing it.
I spoke to Black Cobra once, but we ended up talking about cross country running and drop bears.

Thanks man! We are a two piece sort of by default at the moment. Had a bassist/vocalist but he bailed for some reason so it's just us 2 for now.Iommic Pope wrote: Dude, that all sounds fucking great. Especially for a prac recording.

I really don't mind because I always do the writing/arranging anyway, but I'd welcome a bass player as long as he/she was truly into the music and lifestyle. It's nice to have somebody to bounce ideas off of, and my drummer can only jam once a week because of his job so having more frequency would be ideal as well.

Pretty sure I'm gonna send the Pharaoh back tomorrow. After some more dickering I was only able to find one setting that I liked and I failed to convince the tone controls to do anything noticeable for my ears. I don't know what the deal is, I just didn't mesh with it.
I did really like the amount of volume on tap, just wish the tone controls were more responsive to my rig. I don't really have anything I can run as a boost into it either. :/ I might also want something ridiculous like an Oath, but I think the inability to make it brighter or darker might be a turn off. Sometimes I want a intense treble boost, but other times I want something dark and woolly... Feeling a bit lost, not sure fuzz is the answer.

Re: Pharaoh vs Black Forest vs ?
Sounds like you want either an Elements to do a lot of things or a Revalation if you just want to push your amp harder. The Elements doesn't have the extreme volume boost of the Pharaoh or Revelation but it has all the tonal options you want and works well as a multi-use drive/eq box. I'm using one right now as a clean box to turn a high gain amp into a usable clean sound. As a fuzz pedal it's not nearly my favorite but it can do a lot of things. The Revelation is a good way to make a dirty amp fuzzier.
If any of you first generation Black Forest owners are looking to upgrade to the latest graphic let me know. I've been looking to pick up a BF to boost or alternate with my Pharaoh and I love that original graphic.

Totally want to second getting a revelation over the oath. I use the shit out of the oath but its in a loop that I can control the volume on. Oath is a not fucing around all or nothing thing and does exactly what mark says it does. Smash your amp. Having the ability to control things is a good idea.
Not dissing the oath, I just think you should know what you are getting into

Re: Pharaoh vs Black Forest vs ?
Black Forest can do that. Depending on the amp some settings can be a little too bright. A Revelation would probably fit more over the Oath if you want to be able to tweak stuff around. I wouldn't say that it will brighten the amp up much though, but it will add a fuck ton of crunch. I have a Superbass on my board and a Superlead prototype and both have a shit load of lowend. Out of the two the Superlead version gets a little brighter so that might be one for you. I had an Elements before and while it was awesome, I just found the Revelation to do everything I wanted the Elements for.HeavyXIII wrote:Pretty sure I'm gonna send the Pharaoh back tomorrow. Re: Pharaoh vs Black Forest vs ?
I'm thinking I'm gonna take it slow with this dirt pedal business. My tone isn't bad, and I'm not recording, so I'm gonna really dig in and research and test stuff out before I commit to something else.
That said, I really like the idea of a Revelation. I'm excited for the Marsh Chapel, because of the possibility for simple adjustments/tuning the pedal by the parts used. If the color knob could be moved to somewhere for on the fly use, that might behoove me. I'm also liking the idea of swapping some of the diodes for LEDs to increase volume and reduce the intensity of the fuzz.
The whole personalized circuit had me considering picking up something cheap like an joyo or biyang overdrive or fuzz and doing the same thing. But I think the MC will have more mojo
Was there any discussion on cost for the Marsh Chapel?

Re: Pharaoh vs Black Forest vs ?
im running an oath into a black forest with the gain turned all the way down for my high gain sound. with that depth knob turned to the right, it sounds monstrous. the black forest makes it able to chug major sludge. then just switch off the oath, and crank up the gain on the BF for a brighter, raspier distortion. this also gives me a volume control for the oath when needed.

Try putting some sort of Rangemaster/treble Boost behind it. Hit it hard with that then hit your amp hard with both.
I use a Smallsound/Bigsound Sparkle Motion -> BAT Revelation Superbass -> Verellen Meatsmoke pre. Each one pushes the next one and hits my amp hard. I'm not in love with each pedal on their own, but the right combination kills.
I think the BF is the most versatile of the bunch, then again it's an OD, a much different monster than the fuzzes. Between the Pharaoh and lstr, I perfer the lstr because you have that extra gain step you can use if you want it. Again, more options. The Revelation SB is great in my chain. I use it as a dirty fuzz boost. When I did try it on it's own when I first got it, I wasn't thrilled. Out of the 4 discussed here it had the least amount of options and the least amount of fuzz/gain.
Try using a boost to push the pedals and your amp. You will notice a huge difference. I never turn mine off.
