I just picked one of these up at GC for 80 bucks. It sounded way better to my ears than my Ampeg pf500 and that can be sold towards preordering one of the Squier bass vi's so yeah, no brainer. Now I just need to figure out the cab situation. I have an 8 ohm 410 for the band that practices at my house and was thinking I'd have it rewired to 2 ohms to get enough wattage out of the Peavey. I'll be using this primarily for bass and I imagine I'll need to get the full 200 or so watts to be heard without be forced to use multiple cabs. But I'm worried that running it that hot will give me problems in the long run. Would you guys be worried? I also bring my head to my other band's practice space and use the guitarist's 8 ohm 115. It was not quite loud enough even with the pf 500 so I was thinking I could add a 4 ohm 115 and run the Peavey at 2.6 ohms. In that band I need to be heard over a 410 Deville pushed with several loud fuzzes, a heavy handed drummer and soon a synth/keyboard player. I'd ideally like to be able to bring just the 410 for gigs but I don't want to slowly kill the amp.
An alternative would be trying to take advantage of the "booster amplifier" output and then maybe I wouldn't have to rewire the 410 and I would have the option to safely add add one of the 115s if the gig called for it. But I'm not really sure how this works in terms of adding volume and what exactly I can run through this output. I know Peavey made a power amp to be used with the Musician 400 but provided I can't find one, what would be some other options that would work? Basically I don't know shit about the numbers and acronyms and I just want to figure out the shortest route to enough volume to practice and gig the Peavey with a couple of loud bands. So, what say you?
edit: so you can refer to all the numbers and abbreviations I don't understand.
