Deciding on names for your pedals...

Post by ThePastRecedes »

How do you guys go around thinking of original names?

I want to think of a name that will be original to me, like a brand lets say. Any thing I think of that can be used is usually taken. Not necessarily by a pedal company but somebody on the internet. For example a band or a tumblr blog. Where would the legality be if I used the same name? Good, Bad or Ugly? Would I be better off using "example name" pedals instead. I would much rather use "example name" than attach pedals/electronics/industries ect.. to it.

I'm only a hobbyist but still I would like to have a labelling system and logo so I know what I've made once I have sold it. If I choose to sell it. I don't want to spend hours designing logos and graphics if the end product could be illegal. I know I wouldn't get sued or taken to court simple because I wouldn't be making millions of dollars and there would be nothing to get from me. I just want to prevent any idiots arguing with me :whateva:

Usually the domain names are available...

Anybody with experience in this area?

I just call everything I do "penis". Sounds right to me.

So long as the name of whatever you have the same name as can't be confused with one another, it's fair game. Just don't put the word "monster" in it because Noel Lee is a piece of shit and he will sue any and everyone who uses the word monster. I mean, if you want to call your pedal line TAMPAX, or something like that they might write you a cease and desist letter, and that would be the end of it, because it's a recognizable name brand and you using that name could be considered dilution of the mark. I call my shit, you'll never guess this, Dr Satan's Pedals. Creative, I know. So far I've only made clones of Big Muffs and SuperFuzzes, baring the names Fig Nuts, and Black Debbie, respectively. You get 37billion internet points if you can name the source of my inspiration without googling it.

My guess: they sound like characters from an old novel set in the Deep South. Or sexually transmitted diseases.

I can't help you on the name but if you need a suffix

box
pedals
electronics
stompboxes
audio
designs
industries
devices
engineering
manufacturing

or a prefix!

pedals by ______
made by ______
built by ______

I decided to just go with a 4 letter one word name for my stuff and a trademark logo to keep all the haters with the same 4 letters from encroaching. all that other suffix crap is cliche IMO.
