Screen printing shirts and patches?

Post by Pirate »

What is a low cost way to do this and still have a relatively durable and quality looking product?I don't plan on selling anything I just want to make my own stuff that I can't get in stores.

find a cross stitching loop ( you know those 2 wooden hoops in the craft area at places, the outer loop has a screw)

find some finely pored fabric, something you can see through... like panty hose or something.

then print out what you want to make, trace it with a sharpie or something

take some elmers, mod podge, or similar water proof thing.

use a brush and cover all the space outside of what you want to come through

if you dont want to go all the way to the edge of the loop, just use duct tape to cover the holes.

then either get a medium that mixes with paint to make it fabric paint - or get fabric paint/ ink.

youll want a squeegee of some sort as well....

but yeah, thats it in a nut shell. sorry for the double spacing if it annoys you, i cant help it!
good luck
I'm back! - AGAIN!

You can find decent kits at stores. if you want to do a decent quality job though, Set up an account at a whole sale distributor. all you need is a name and your social can be your tax id. since you won't be selling it.

A few tips.

Don't use Water based inks. they don't last for shit. use plastisol (sp?) it'll last way longer. My friend made a shirt for me about 3 years ago and it's still on there. It's fadded but in that oh so cool Ironic sort of way :thumb:

If you want to do it right, you'll need to print your artwork on a transparency using a laser printer or copier. the same store you get the emulsion and other supplies from will have a spray called Ultra Black. this will keep you from needed to print your artwork out twice and go throught the PITA of lining them up.

Shit, if enough people are interested I can see about doing a tutorial on this for the board. :idk:
