Another low watt thrad

Post by hazelwould »

So, I'm gonna sell some stuff to fund a low watt amp. I'm looking for something with decent gain, good clean headroom, and lots of thump.

Here's what I'm considering:
Hovercraft Dwavernaut
Orange OR15
Orange Tiny Terror
Orange Dual Terror
Orange Dark Terror
Vox Night Train
Traynor Dark Horse
Minimat
Doom Train (though out of my budget)

Anything else I'm missing that could allow me to have nice low end, decent gain and low volume?

i went thru tones of low watt head, my favs was the jetcity 20 watt. mad cheap, i think less than 200, and recently i picked up a zvex nano amp. i always thought it was a toy, but i can damn near get fender cleans to balls to the walls marshal with those little switches. the versatility of the amp amazes me, imo kills all the other low watt offerings, however i notice the 1/2watt-1 watt is fucking ridiculous loud and not suitable for apt playing like other smaller amps.

I literally JUST typed this in another thread

My sexy self wrote:I really like my Egnater Tweaker. The head for a 15w version (I have the 40) is $399. It really does have a ton of tones in it though. I dont know about the 15 but mine can stay clean as loud as I have ever needed it but I dont run completely clean either.

It can get pretty dirty too

I'm really tempted by the Orange OR15. Sounds pretty tasty.

Those Egnaters look/sound good. The Jet City is pretty hideous to me.

I'm actually considering the Zvex Amp!

Personally I don't like the way most fuzz pedals sound going into my Tweaker.

Ive had not so good experience with muffs and the tweaker. But most of the other fuzzes Ive tried have been more cutting/trebly than a muff. :idk: that may mean something
Algal bloom sounds like it was made for it though! <3

The OR15 is not what you want in terms of clean headroom, not even close. That amp is a gain monster.

I'd go Hovercraft and get a Dwarvenaut 20 built to your specs. I have one that dirty and thick like a vintage OR/Matamp and another built to bass specs (for guitar and Bass VI) that has TONS of clean headroom. Both love pedals and sound amazing. You could voice it however you please basically.

Oh, but they're loud as fuck, just fyi...

Granted most fuzzes I've owned/own are muffs. lol.

The FZ-2 and Fuzz Factory were too trebly on the other hand.

Duuuude! I want one bad. :(

Good to know about the Orange. I do need some decent clean headroom. And I want something really rich/deep yet sparkly and clean.

The OR15 will let you down then, no doubt. It can do clean-ish on up through every level of gain you could ever want. Rich, deep, and sparkly cleans aren't present though.

Your basically describing my bass spec Dwarvenaut. It also has and added rear panel depth and voicing controls that make a huge impact on sound. Won't get super gainy, crunch for sure but it's more about high headroom and huge sounding clean and clean-ish tones. Until you lay on the dirt/fuzz pedals that is.

Oh, and it'll do low volume too, sounds fantastic, should clarify that. However, when you need the output, the Hovercraft stuff easily provides.
