scope your guitar first to get the voltages. if your guitar is +/-0.1v you should attenuate your sine wave generator accordingly. the low E on guitar is 81Hz but I usually start with 1KHz sine before I do anything else. if you have a scrap single coil pickup around the shop you can run your function generator tip through that before the circuit under test but so far I have not needed it.

Thanks for all the advice Rob.
I had my first ever breadboarding experience this evening. It worked first time! Stoked.
Had a go with different caps and managed to make it sound really bad. Went back to stock, put a bigger input cap in there and fixed the fuzz control at about 33k and I honestly can't tell the difference between it and my original at '10.30pm flat with thin walls' volume. I'm using 2n3904s, didn't bother to test the gains. I'll try again tomorrow with the volume up and see how it is.

I LOVE FUZZ. I LOVE BREADBOARD.
