A question regarding postage

Post by ComeMyFanatics »

Didn't know where else to put this so here we go:
Just bought a Boss pedal of a UK based eBayer. He's charging £20 for shipping to Sweden, this seems to be a bit over the top. Or...? :?: If any of you guys have shipped to Sweden or any other European country lately (I assume that postage for whole Europe is the same when posting from the U.K?), please let me know what postage for one pedal landed on.

Well, i can actually help for once! I got a pickup sent to me from Germany (Im in scotland) , it as £7.95 for me... in a box that could eaaaasily carry a pedal. So if rates are the same across europe, thats a bench mark. But i think Sweden miiight be a bit more :idk:

That's crazy man, shipping from the UK is £5-10 to pretty much anywhere. I've shipped stuff all over and never been charged more than a tenner for a normal pedal sized package. Within europe it's normally around £7.

The prices vary alot around Europe but does it not depend on the type of shipping? If you want the goods signed for/insured value/speed etc.
Maybe your seller is not comfortable sending no frills but still seems £10.00 too much regardless.

Yeah, I send stuff normal 2nd class so 1st is maybe a few more pounds, but the most expensive options still won't be £20 for a pedal, unless for some reason he's paying loads with a private courier or something.

If the seller is shipping the item with Royal Mail:

Sweden + Small packet ~ 430g + value of £50:

£11.94 tracked within the UK with delivery confirmation, insured up to £50 and delivery within 2-3 days
£10.25 tracked within the UK, insured up to £50 and delivery within 4-5 days
£41.60 tracked all the way, insured like crazy, NBD delivery/reimbursed if late, blablabla (total overkill)

If the entered value is £100 it'll go up to £15.06 for Sweden/small package, etc. You see the pattern.

Generally I declare a lower value, like less than £20 and there is no problem when you ship within the EU. I'm a bit more cautious when I send some goods to our friends on the other side of the pond.
In this case going for less than £20 would take the shipping cost down to £4.95; however if this is an eBay transaction I doubt the seller will do that.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. :thumb: I actually checked Royal Mail before I placed a bid and guessed at somewhere around £7-10, I've had pedals shipped here for around £10 (signed for), forgot to write that yesterday as I was quite tired. Thought that they maybe had raised the postage costs.
I'll drop him a message and ask for a correction as it's just plain Royal Mail service that is the intended shipping method.
Once again, thanks. I'm on a low budget as I'm a student so everything counts.

While I agree that is very high you really should have confirmed postage before buying the item...

It may be he is using a more expensive tracked option, I don't blame him having had pedals 'go missing' when using ebay and paypal forcing me to refund the buyer.

Yea shipping overseas is a hassle. It takes like 30 days for the PayPal money to clear to the aviable balance, plus if he had to buy a box, bubble wrap, and tape plus figuring the gas it took to get to te post office it dosent seem to high. I usually ship pedals for 5 bucks or for free, but for guitars I always put 60. It only costs about 40 to ship a guitar, but the box costs 20, and pnuts/bubble wrap for guitas also run 20 so when all is said and done I'm paying 20 to ship to you.
