Remenisce about the pedals of yore (Snowdrift)

With this boutique explosion of the past years and all, there have been some pedals that surfaced, got hyped really quickly never to be seen again. With some I still wonder. Did I miss out? Why are they never in the bst? Why don't you see them on people's boards?

For example, what happened to the snowdrift?
Of course there has been the Snowflake, which is a sort of descendent of the Snowdrift which was a descendent of the Penny Pedals Fingerprint. And since Penny Pedals is back in business of course there won't be any more Snowdrifts.
But what I am really interested in is what people say after having a Snowdrift for a year or two. I remember everyone raving about these being the Bee's Knees for Shoegaze or whatever, but how come they are so rarely seen? Is it simple because they ARE rare? Is it because they haven't lived up to everybody's expectations? Does anyone still have one of these around and use it?

I dunno why, probably because of the Penny Pedals resurgence I've been thinking about the Snowdrift kinda often. Does that happen to you guys with certain pedals?

I just sold the prettiest Snowdrift about a month ago... I really liked the first stage but couldn't jive with the high gain second stage and since I have a Finger that Tom made I found it just sat on a shelf and the prettiness and the Laura B. paint couldn't justify me keeping it... I hope someone else is happy with it...

Pedals are pedals and I wonder about some of our ILF hypeness too... People are flippin ARC Muffs and Mini's all the time so I guess it's just a matter of "WHAT WORKS FOR YOU OR NOT"... I'm sure in 7 years I'll be cryin for my old Snowdrift but in 7 years we might be all dying from Zombie Sars and killing Crows for food so you have to take it all in context and move on...

The pedal board and gas threads are fun for furthering this line of enquiry. You can really see trends in those threads, pedals going from everywhere to nowhere.

There aren't all that many that do stand the test of time, at least hype wise.

Pretty sure the AB is its own thing. That was one of Tom's first fuzzes, and certainly predates his work with the Snowdrift.

hmmm lemme see if i can get this right:

the snowdrift was a fingerprint on one side and, i think, an algal bloom pre-wired to one setting for the 2nd side.

snowflake was a straight up fingerprint.

i made around 150 fingerprints over the years and rarely see them for sale. even with a lot of clones around so you could sell the original and buy a copy, i think a lot of people really like them and hold on to them.

not everything works well with every set up or style or player. things get flipped all the time. as for standing the test of time, a lot of guys who started out over 5 years ago and are still around, those originals are solid and still a mainstay on a lot of boards.... skreddy, malekko, D.A.M., Zvex, Catalinbread, Dr. S, etc.

Yeah dude, I was just saying that the AB has lasted and people still love it whereas the Snowdrift's hype has faded and less people speak about them.

Totally agree about the Fuck. That's a straight up classic pedal imo, and I genuinely don't see that changing.

Dr Scientist does really seem to have it's own jam going. Dying to try a The Elements

Both the Fuck (Mini too) and Elements are killer and qualify as a pedals that withstood the hype in recent years imo. Same goes for the Pharaoh. Those pedals are some of the very best at what they do.

Never had the opportunity to try a Snowdrift or Fingerprint but I do own a Fuzzprint and it's just alright.

I find myself agreeing with everyone here. I had two fucks, and I want a third. Bad.

Also, I do enjoy the fact that there's always a muff of the month. It's kinda a testament to the circuit design. But, it's weird when one gets forgotten. My bro has a Supercollider, and it fucking rips, yet nobody talks about them anymore.

Yeah, I have a Beast and that thing rules hard. Probably the best sounding, most versatile high gain muff I've ever heard followed closely by the Blunderbuss. I won't be flipping either.
