emphasis on harmonic content that doesn't become apparent until the signal is run through multiple gain stages. the way clipping adds compression, character, and/or cacaphony to the sound. the joy of making Big Loud Sounds. the breeze from the cabinets blowing the hair on your legs around.

the audio phenomenon of Distortion stimulates the pleasure center in your brain. This is also part of why distorted audio sounds so loud to your ear, even though in actual DB it may be quieter than your clean signal. This is why so many punk ass bitches have quiet fuzz tones on their weak ass bands. "Whoops, forgot to check my levels with the band."

There's also so much detail, it can be really invigorating, so many harmonic peaks chasing each other, fighting for momentary supremacy... and this is literal -- like all animals we are not programmed so much to notice things (though we can train ourselves to notice abstract things) as to notice changes. The sound of a scraping something in your blind spot at 145 degrees -- that could be a predator or a mate; either way it is fascinating. there was a really famous photographer whose name I have sadly forgotten who said "distortion draws the eye" (and he didn't just mean the distortion of a wide-angle lens!), and it really resonated with me. Even in songwriting it is so clear that while repetition sets the listener up, the part they can remember is the distortion; the dissonant change and its (optional) resolution...

As already touched on...it's the coloration and artifacts created by certain types of distortion. I'm going to lift a phrase from the power chord wiki page...

"When two or more notes are played through a distortion process which non-linearly transforms the audio signal, additional partials are generated at the sums and differences of the frequencies of the harmonics of those notes (intermodulation distortion)."

The harsh transients are compressed while the harmonically rich content along the equilibrium expands and resonates.

Fuzz is meant to be felt...and felt is fuzzy to the touch. Life is interesting.
