re fretting a guitar

So i'm getting some buzzing and dead notes on the upper part of my fret board in two of my guitars that I've played regularly for a few years. They're both set up right. Thinking about re fretting if leveling out the frets doesn't improve it. So far after doing some research it seemed that I would only need to buy fret wire, which on warmoth its like 6 bucks for enough for one neck. Am i missing something or is it relatively cheap to re fret/ is it a bitch to do/easy to fuck up?

Its a pain in the pee pee if you dont know what youre doin/ havent practiced. I say do a fret levelling and re crowning and see how that goes. IF theres not a decent improvement, ill tyoe a bunch or TL;DR for ya about it

You might only need to level from like fret 12 to 24 though, we call that fallaway and might be all you need, no sense recrowning the whole board if half the frets are fine.

what he said. refretting is a bridge i haven't crossed yet because it requires specialized skills i haven't had the opportunity to learn. it's learnable, but if i was to try i'd get a cheap acoustic or a bolt-on neck on which to practice before doing anything to an instrument i care about.
