Re: help me pick an amp
The shop made it clear that it was a no return kinda deal. Im thinking they knew something was up hence the cheap price. Fuckers. I guess $160 for a cab with two celestions and a busted amp isnt TOO bad. It was awesome while it lasted(one week pfft)
Fuzz+dirty amp I can deal with, its the clear cleans im worried about. I like ss amps for that reason. But toob warmth and fatness...
Im thinking I may actually just save up for a hovercraft. I think I can save that. Straight pledge i reckon. Sell some gear. Save paychecks. Something. I have no idea. Ive been looking at amps all day. Literally like 10 hours of research. Ive also contacted a few locals and I dont think there are any good techs on island. So im gonna sit on the sunn till I get back to the mainland. Ill have to use this shit fender bass amp for the time being.
So I guess my op can be disregarded. I dont know what I want anymore. My brain feels heavy with amps and specs.

Look at the Egnater Tweakers. I have a 40 but the 15 is cheaper. I'm really happy with mine. Lotsa tones in em. I guess that's the point though. I'm not sure how clean the 15 can stay but mine can be completely clean at drummer/small giggy volumes.

Night train...I found it excessively harsh when it broke up.
Never tried the otehr one.
After researching for the past few hours, the excelsior is sounding better and better. The vht seems be a little dirty all the time.
We had a huuuge excelsior thread. PM MEC and Sylnau if you want some hands on opinions.

Re: help me pick an amp
if you want a small amp that can do loud, look at the tweed Peaveys. i've played through a Classic 30 that was WONDERFUL, much better than the Fender Blues etc. or Hot Rod models. some of the most underrated amps around. i'd love to try the tweed Peavey with the 15" speaker, i think it's called Blues King?
i didn't much care for the Egnater Tweaker...it has dozens of sounds/settings, but only two or three appealed to me.
if you don't mind some breakup, look for a Kalamazoo Bass 30. the closed cabinet means it's loud as fuck with the volume set to 1--i terrified my cat when i plugged the Mini Plague Bearer noise synth into it and barely edged the volume up--and the 7591 power tubes give it a different color than 6L6/6V6 or EL84 amps. and they're cheap as hell...mine cost $250 + about $120 to have it recapped.

Re: help me pick an amp
When you've found an amp you want to be the cornerstone of your sound; if you feel the output is limited then upgrading to more efficient drivers can effectively double its volume or more. I advocate not buying equipment by its specs sheet. How does it sound?
Most (definitely not all) venues are going to have their own PA system to mic up anyway. Finding your own PA is another option...but not necessarily a practical one. First find the sound you want. If you
an amp both clean and dirty then go with that amp. Find a way to make it happen.
As far as "No Returns" policy is concerned @Beta, that's unacceptable. You buy an amp and it's dead within a week.
If you were sold the amp under the premise of it being functional and without issue then you might be covered under the Lemon laws.
Either way I would approach the store with the issue and ask what they're going to do about it.
If you go once you've been informed of your/their liability, just remain calm and tell them anything less than doing what's right is unacceptable.
IDK, talk to a lawyer. Maybe head over to TGP for some insight, just be prepared for browbeating, sanctimony and subtle brags

Im just gonna accept it as a bad purchase. I thought lemon laws only apply to cars? Its a small island and theres only 5 dudes working at the store and I go in there quite a bit. I dont want no issueswith them. I just see it as I got a cab with celestion vintage 30s in it. Fudge it.
As far as the amp sound. you make good points but its so hard for me because of the limited items at the shop (mostly modeling amps) and people on craigslist 7 times outta 10 wont let me come over and try them amp because they dont want strangers in their house...this happened atleast 10 times in the past 12 months. They want me to take their word for it. Ive even gotten a "you dont know what this is, you dont need to buy it" regarding a fender amp. Mauis fucking weird but people DO get ripped off alot on CL here and word spreads fast. I got taken around December for some electronic si was selling...motherfucker just ran with it.
@dubkitty. There is a peavey classic 30 for sale locally that im going to check out when ever they get back to me. I was honestly gonna pass it up but im going on your recommendation.

A black hearts little giant just popped on craigslist @$200 this past hour. I used to own one but sold it because of finacial issues. I loved mine. I might go get that after a test to see if I still love it.
