What.

That depth mod starts at stock setting and goes SUPER deep from there. Use expression to control the mix and the SC goes fucking nuts. It's awesome!

my only background is youtube so :idk: :?:

Is it as noisy as the Ghost Echo? My GE produced a lot of hiss when engaged.

My first Spring Chicken had some hiss but my buddy has one that's quiet as a mouse so I guess it depends...

Is it weird that I don't care about hiss or noise? As long as I can't hear it when I'm playing, who gives a shit? Quiet bits in songs, no one in the audience can hear it, and in recordings a touch of gate means silence. So why worry about hiss?

Hiss has to be pretty excessive for me to start giving a shit. Very rare that I've run across unbearable hiss with any pedal.

Some combinations of pedals can give quite unbearable hiss though, my Whammy 5 in combination with certain fuzzes or modulation pedals for instance (digital pedals are usually more difficult tp deal with).
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

Mhm, this is right-on.
Sometimes it takes shuffling power supply cabling, even from a psu with isolated outs; or rearranging patch cable routing to make certain combinations of pedals play nicer with each other.
Other pedals simply do not play well with each other due to buffers, charge pumps and carrier bleed conflicting or creating a perfect storm of noise.
I've found that a buffered pedal > digital pedal (especially with lfo) > pedal w/charge pump = high noise floor even when muted.

It also depends a lot on pickups and your amp, whether you're going into the front end or using an amp's fx loop.
The front ends of vintage nonmaster amps are particularly sensitive...

My v1 SC would increase in hiss as Cluck is increased, especially on high Dwell settings. In the original SC paperwork, Malekko mentions this as being par for the course due to the way the SC is tuned to self-oscillate.
But I only noticed it when going into the front of my nonmaster Selmer head, with dirt in front of it.
Going into a MV Twin (QR) it was quiet by comparison.

It's really a case-by-case crapshoot...but fwiw I only noticed the hiss when not playing...

I read this as "my GF produced a lot of hiss when engaged" at first.

Yeah my dudes. The endless feedback situation with the Spring Chicken ruuuuuules. I use it in my synth stuff all the time. I can be playing a phrase and slowly dialing the depth deeper and deeper until it just sort of lifts off into space. I let it hang for a bit and feedback on itself and then back the depth off until it tapers back into regular 'verb territory. Spring Chicken has been integral in my setups for years. One of my favorite pedals, hands down.

OH MY GOD!!

Seems the demi-demon of impulse buying has looked upon me favourably.

Great description. GAS reignited. I kinda dropped the Spring Chicken because of the price and lack of availability when the Subdecay Spring Theory came out, but that expression pedal control seems like it's worth the new price of admission.

Definitely true. It is so dependant on your set-up.

PGS has a way of never doing that with highly anticipated stuff. Fuckers.

I ordered a couple direct from Malekko for phantasmagorovich and myself but they're not ready to go out the door just yet....
