boring question: line 6 pod hd

Post by friendship »

Not as cool as fuzz pedals, but I was thinking of getting a Line 6 Pod HD desktop thingy. I've been using a 2.0 since like 2005; it's gotten a ton of use but I'm a bit tired of what it can do and their new shit seems impressive. I can't get a good idea of whether it's for me, since a lot of the reviews either focus on the presets (which, if those are like the ones on the 2.0, are awful and unrepresentative) or focus how useful it is for Metallica Teens to get mega-high gain Brootal Metal sounds.

Some stuff

1. I do a ton of home recording and I'd use it exclusively for this purpose.
2. I'm pretty accustomed to working with equipment to get the best sounds I can out of them, so I expect to do this.
3. I have three beautiful amps, but I live in an urban apartment with thin ceilings/walls, so recording them is basically never an option.
4. I do expect the amps and effects that sound "real."
5. I wish they could have put some bass amps in this thing.

I don't know, do you think this is good for my intended use? If I use my Pod 2.0 for practice/demos all the time, would I benefit greatly from the upgrade?

I had the HD500, not the desktop but essentially the same.
The amps can sound good with tinkering. The effects are fun but most aren't perfect recording quality.
I never had the Pod 2 so I can't say how it compares but it's probably better.
What was the question?

Oh, basically if it's worth dropping the bones on the upgrade (I'm not very moneyed) and if it sounds pretty damn good. Could I trouble you to elaborate on the effects?

They're the M-Series effects so it's everything you hear about the M5/9/13.
Folks around here won't have much to say about the pod stuff. Maybe try the digital and modeling forum at TGP: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/forumdisplay.php?f=53

Cool, thanks! Yeah I figured it would be a long shot. I'm not really a forum-goer so I wasn't sure where to ask.
