I don't think you're getting the "noob" treatment. I think the point people here have made, is that if you are really dedicated to getting those sounds that are so specific to the hazarai then you should keep using the hazarai not some facsimile.

I think the Timeline would be your best bet for its Swiss Amry-esque abilities. Or you could get a bunch of hazarais and you would only have to set them differently a couple of times depending on what you're doing.

You're never going to get away from knob twiddling mid-set with your pedals, the most you could do is minimize the twiddling you have to do. The most obvious thing to do would be to get a pedal that's perfect for each aspect of the sounds you like, then you'd never have to change settings (just tap-dance like fred astaire). I'd suggest looking for another delay to take over the sounds that aren't so perfect for the hazarai and see how much knob twiddling you can save yourself.

I'm not looking for advice on how I must become one with a pedal or how I must change my outlook on making music. It's just not helpful or related to what I am asking dudes and honestly comes off as slightly condescending! It assumes that I have not already "been there", ya know?

Yeah... This is ILF not (insert generic ass guitbox forum name here) so you're gonna get the gamut... If you make a thread asking what's your favorite color you'll get blue, green, Capybara, purple, Andre the Giant, yellow and Djibouti...

The Timeline and the Delay Lab seem to be the most spec'd out there for what you want, check 'em out or buy 6 delays...

Andre the Giant is definitely my favorite color. And wrestler. And possibly actor as well. That man was a legend.

i think that SMMH can do certain sounds that are very hard to imitate

at least i haven't heard a delay that could replace it in the sense of recreating the sounds :(

being able to make loops on the fly with the delays? HELL YES. bur what drove me mad is the mix knob. if they fixed that, I'd probably have one again. to my knowledge, the Timeline and M9 are the only pedals capable of such a feat.

dat repeats fade knob is hella intuitive. i don't know any delays that have it THAT practically laid out.

a great question for the masses..i am curious to see if anyone has more answers

oh yeah, and that reverse slam feature...YES.

Yeah, I'm not trying to say your a noob. I had a timeline, i had a hazarai. The timeline, couldn't do the crazy stuff (i thought). Rhe time line, can do a host more of shit. the timeline can not do the temporary reverse. The timeline can not do the multitap fade up repeats. The time needs a controller to half speed, double speed, or reverse the loop. In the mean time you loose the nice ramping up of speed, you het when you adjust the hazarai loop speed. The timeline does not have reverb. The timeline does not have the multitap reverse mode. The timeline's modulation is really different than the hazarai.

You get a lot more with the timeline, but i think, personally, not trying to insult anyone, the timeline is way to tame for it's price range and feature set. It sounds awesome, but mild. I like the crazy of the hazarai.

I don't know, the thing I mostly use the Timeline for is the crazy settings (reverse, ice, lo-fi) and the looper, the general delays on it aren't that great in my opinion, then again, nothing can compete with a Deluxe Memory Man on that I think.
Like people say, if you like the Hazarai then keep it, try some other stuff and if you're sure it can replace your Hazarai for you then sell it.

We gotcha, brother. Relax, definitely wasn't a noob treatment. If it doesn't work .. it doesn't work, just move on. We're just sharing our thoughts and experiences with the pedal. I've had timeline before, IMO it's just sterile, too much menu digging-twiddling-unused presets-insecure feeling about not getting the right level on parameters and lifeless (like most of strymon's), so I sold it. Could be a unicorn pedal for someone though, just wasn't for me. I just simply hate a "precise" pedals in general, takes away the fun factor and edgy feeling out of it.

I would suggest you to get the delaylab instead if you need presets and multi delay modes, might or might not sound cold as well but looks like it's the bangest for the buck and has so many great reviews, much simpler for the fast interaction especially when you're an active gigging player. I'd hit that. But still, according to the thread's title.. nothing could replace the SMMw/H, cos there's simply NONE alike.

Hopefully EHX can take a hint and revamp the Haz. Digital is fine, but keep my toan in tact! And don't do a mix that just kills my dry signal. Boosh!

Hazarai it's one of the best pedals I ever owned, you should buy a second delay maybe an analog one, but don't sell the hazarai!!! Maybe timeline or superdelay can replace the hazarai, but they are to hi-fi for pure hazarai experience.

If money is no option, get a Timeline. With the way you can edit effects and save hella presets, it'll do whatever you want.
If you're on a budget, I say try the DelayLab. I'm pretty sure it will do almost everything your looking for. They only reason I don't still have one is the looper isn't long enough for me.
Just keep in mind that both are very deep pedals and that it will take a lot of time and tweaking if you're looking for several specific sounds, and may even require add-ons like an expression pedal (or midi controller, in the case of the TL).

Oh, yeah, and you need two delays.
Just do it.
I like to try to have an analog one (currently CC) and a digital with more options.

Why have I never really payed attention to this pedal?! Watched a few demos and I'm convinced I need one now. I feel foolish for ignoring them in the past
