Yeah, probably just satin. I don't know how many extra layers of shit have to go on guitars to finish them. I reckon you gotta sand the paint off, then do some sort of transparent spray, then a finish? I have no idea.

The paint comes right off even just using my fingernail or a pick... seems kinda silly. I'm sure I could get the shit off myself, but I'm not so great with the electronics and stuff.

Basically I can play a guitar and put strings on it, and that's it.

That's about all I knew how to do until I tackled the project I posted. If you can be patient, the internet can provide you with how to do every step. I built TWO guitars in about a couple months' time having never done it before. There was some troubleshooting and problem solving involved, but it was worth it.

Tru Oil is a really easy way to finish, should you want a "natural wood" kind of look. It's a gun stock oil, and it's cheap. I got the Walnut Stain, the Sealer and Filler, and the finish. After you've gotten the old paint/finish off, down to bare wood, you use them in that order. There are tons of instructions all over the net as to how to apply it, etc. It's really pretty easy.

Check out reranch.com and their forums, too. Lots of really helpful people there.
