Yeah, I've done a lot of A/V installations in some of these TX Mega-Churches and always wonder WWJP... What Would Jesus Play???

I'm not gonna blaspheme but isn't that kinda opulent shizzz what he was against... I may be jumping the gun here cause the OP didn't specify who he was worshiping so I'm not sure if it's Kali, Buddha, Krishna, Allah or that other guy...

I'd say a phaser is a must for me when i want to go full space-and-beyond, so I'd suggest something nice and smooth like an oldschool Small Stone or a Homebrew Psilocybe

yeah, I only have the new version now though the old one has been sold

as far as ambient goes... id go with two MODULATED delays (Wampler FTE, EQD Disaster Transport), phaser (Small Stone), reverb (the new incoming custom pedal or a Dr.Sci RRR) and my old trusty Digitech PDS 20/20 for flanger and infinite repeats

Upgrade that Fab to something like a Chroma chorus or a Polytope, detuned chorus sounds are killer for ambience.

And +1 on subtle phaser to create some movement.

I saw a guy last night playin with a Chroma and it had me second guessing my natural Chorus hate... Sounded sweet and he was just using the standard sounds no toneprints or anything...

Movement is definitely important i think, I'd suggest phaser for more spacey/whooshy ambience or a trem for some more pulsing Tim Hecker sorta sounds. The tremolessence is killer.
What i mainly use for ambience is volume pedal -> reverb -> OD -> delay -> trem -> reverb
