I've been wanting a 2nd guitar for open tuning/slide stuff and this looks like it would fit the bill.

I've nearly bought the Hanson Cigno many many times, but I don't think it would be that different from my Les Paul. The thing that I don't think I'd like about it is the neck... I wrote to Hanson and they say it's pretty thick, not like a Gibson Slim Taper or anything. Other than that... it's a really cool guitar.

You can't go wrong with the Squier J Mascis JM, though. I had one of the first ones and it was a GREAT guitar. Otherwise I'd go for one of those Fender Modern Player Deluxe Thinline Teles:

The chunky neck is actually the main selling point for me. Being a bass player, I appreciate a fat neck <insert TWSS joke here>.

it would depend on what i felt like that day...possibly something in a Squier offset, maybe one of the Epiphone Les Paul goldtops with P90s, maybe a weird old Japanese/European thing.

I got my Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Special for less than like $450. I love it! Duncan designed P90 in the neck, Duncan designed single coil in the bridge. Maple Jazzmaster neck, that plays like a freaking dream. Sexy transparent white finish with black pickguard. Vintage tuners. I have a Taylor T5 and a Gibson SG and this Tele is currently my freaking baby. Super versatile.

you can get one of the normal benford s or t series. if i had 500 to blow and i needed quality i would go that route personally. i dont own one yet but the two i have played are sweet, ill be making an order soon myself. i know ill draw a lot of hate from this forum for saying this, but squiers have always felt like toys to me personally, and i have yet to see one older than 4 years that isnt falling apart.

Had multiple 80s MIJ Squiers, no issues. I just don't play Strats any more.

Jazz Bass, MIM Squier, owned since '94.

My only Strat, MIM Squier, owned since new in '98.

Etc.

You'll see a bunch of beat up ones, too, but first guitars get thrashed.

naw, nobody's going to "hate" on you for having an opinion based on your own experience. folks here generally try not to expend too much energy on that sort of thing. disagreement, sure, but not hate. in the nicest sense possible, it doesn't effect my life if you don't like Squiers. like what you like...isn't that what music is for?

Have you tried the Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified Squiers? I needed a fender-ish bass in an emergency and went to a GC a couple years ago with 500 bucks in hand, expecting to walk out with an MIM Fender Jazz. But the VM Squier actually blew away 3 different MIM Fenders, both in tone and looks, tried through a couple different amps. The sales guy was surprised too. And I also found out I like Jag basses better than Jazzies. And I walked out with the bass I wanted, a hard case and 200 bucks left over.
