Saw Karnivool yesterday opening for Stone Sour...

Post by DarkAxel »

I came for Karnivool and left afterwards

anyway it was absolutely breathtaking for me, they're one of my favourite bands ever :) can't wait for their headlining tour, i'm going to Vienna in October

they played both already released tracks from the upcoming album (We Are and The Refusal), both were pretty amazing live :) plus a few tracks from "Sound Awake" (Simple Boy, Goliath, All I Know, New Day) and one from "Themata" (Roquefort)

I absolutely loved it, some pretty awesome playing ideas, fuzz toans and guitar synth usage... also Jon Stockman's live bass tone is the best shit i've ever heard!!

i really hope they'll play Deadman or Change on the headlining tour... also can¨t wait for the new album!!

any Karnivool fans here?

I'd love to hear them live.
What amps did Stockman use?

I like Karnivool a lot, don't listen to them as much but when their new stuff comes out then i'll change. They're so much better than those other Aussie Prog-Rock bands (Cog/Dead Circus etc)

haha, they're all pretty different, I like both Cog and Karnivool :) ... Dead Letter Circus makes me mad with the synth bass and 1/8* delays in every song... it's quite annoying

Karnivool wins for me tho

Stockman used an Ashdown. The bass was absolutely crushing

I know he uses lots of gimmicks for his tone in the studio, but I've always been curious how he pulls it off on stage. Really hoping they drive by Croatia sometime soon.

Pretty sure Stockman's tone is driven heavily by his Warwick bass too. You have to hear it live to understand how good he is. The bottom end he drives literally hits you in the chest and fills the room. People in the crowd kept talking about how huge the sound was. Very cool player. I'm a big fan of Karnivool and I think there's something unique about their sound that makes them a bit better than a lot of other Aussie contemporaries. It's not chops or even songwriting as much as they seem to really understand great cohesive tones playing together.

My band scored a support in a show with FloatingMe last year. That's Stockman from Karnivool on bass, Lucius Borich from Cog on drums and some dudes from Scary Mother. They were a really interesting band live, obviously all great players. Worth checking them out if you like those bands.
