Rat Halp!!!

Post by sergiomunoz74 »

So okay I have a dilemma, I have an older big box vintage reissue rat and I fucking adore it but honestly it's a bit limited. Everytime I go to a different dirt pedal I think about how awesome it but at the same time how closely it resembles my current Rat pedal. So after trying a bunch of clones or similars such as the Rattail and Walrus Iron Horse and stuff. I found what I want in a rat, but the thing is I love the enclosure so much that I can't part with the big dumb box.

So I'm looking for a person to mod this thing instead. I'm trying to find someone that can add a butt load of switches GE/SI switch, OD/Distortion/fuzz, better filter knob function, bigger low end, smooth out the harsh high end and all that jazz. Better switches. basically I need someone that can make this thing into an amazing jack of all trades.

Can anyone find me this wizard maven of modding?

skullservant, Dunwich Nick, Mark from BAT are the first few I'd check with tho they may be backed up making their own stuff. TONS of builders and DIY'ers around here would be capable tho, maybe post this thread in the DIY section and see who's down to do it...

Didn't somebody have a super cool drop-in PCB replacement in BST that was set up to drop in and allow you to add the common mods and switches...culturejam maybe?
I guess that would only be useful if you're the diy type and are comfortable with soldering but they looked sweet!
Special low-frequency version.

Yeah I know nothing about soldering and stuff like that. Although I'm probably going to try and hit up all three guys but I'm pretty both Mark and Nick are especially busy. Let me cross post this or maybe is there way to move this into the DIY forum?

Sounds like you're describing the Iron Pig by Earthbound.

Well the thing is I've tried many other pedals and although I like them, I just want my big box rat, I like the enclosure, and I've had it longer than any other pedal so although I can but a new pedal, in the end I would sell it for one reason or another and keep the rat. I realize sub consciously it just means too much to me haha.

Pretty confident I could get that going for ya. I might have to take some time to get to know your rat though  . I've never really used one, familiar with the circuit itself, but not the quirks. Hit up those other dudes first, and if it's a no go, we can try and work something out

Ya get stuck you can ask me if you wanna take it on.

Although I am a bit sad about an original big box rat being defaced.

Off topic, did you ever get that memory man going?

Haha, thanks my man. Don't think I'll need help on this one, but I do need to talk to you about some diff circuit related stuff soon. With some clever use of dual gang pots and pot/switch combos, it very well might be possible to do without much defacing.
...and no, I put the MM on the back burner and then ended up giving it back to my buddy. Kind of wish I had man'ed up and fixed it though :grumpy:

Damn, when I was trying to help before I wasn't as well versed in analog delays (especially ehx) as I am now, we coulda got it going.

Feel free to PM me man :thumb: any time.

And ahhh, touche, didn't think of switching pots. Clever and like the secret weapon rat.

ACtually skull servant will be taking care of it it looks like so I'll probably bring back the thing when it's done with some recorded bits and all that of it.
