That's because you're right.
Absence is severely underrrated in the scheme of their catalog, though.

I don't know about "right". It's certainly an opinion that many share. I personally couldn't really get into Celestial, it's still too straight-up sludge for me, not enough melody. And I love the atmospheric/psyche direction they went later on. My favorites are definitely Panopticon and Wavering Radiant.

edit: what's the other good stuff?hope it's better than that palms track, it's alright but pretty boring... i didn't make it clear through it...
Cliff has been in Red Sparowes the whole time, Jeff played on the first album. Aaron is doing Old Man Gloom. Jeff also did an ambient thing called Crone, which is fucking awesome if you're into ambient

Cool jammin some "Dream Metal" right now... I'm guessing it'll be along the lines of Team Sleep...

Palms is the slow-orbiting-rocket float of Oceanic-era Isis painted in soft colors, now with the gushing, soaring melodies that would work on an older sibling's mixtape next to Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, U2, or Depeche Mode.
I guess I'm that "Older Sibling"...

Chino seems to record well but can be hit or miss live; as a vocalist.
Still gotta listen to the Palms tracks that are available; but I couldn't really get into Team Sleep or Crosses.
Couldn't really get into Isis either. I would definitely try again though.

Agreed.

Those two tracks contain most every aspect I LOVE about Isis.

I've never heard Chino sound good live, always shit.
And give Panopticon another go. If you don't like that record, you won't like Isis. I remember being a little bored by it initially, particularly the drumming. Then it clicked and I fell head over heels.

Re: Palms (members of ISIS + Chino Moreno)
All this Panopticon love is making me happy. Even if I don't love a lot of Isis' material, that album is phenomenal.
Arguably my favorite heavy record, though We Are The Romans could beat it out depending on the day.
Regarding Palms, I only listened to two tracks but I haven't been sucked in so far.
Production seems like it was lacking in a some way.. will need to give it more time (and a full listen).

Panopticon has my least favorite production of any Isis album. Driest sounding beast ever.
Some seriously great jams on that album, though.

The Palms stuff sounds nice, but it's not really doing anything for me...

Turner and Gallagher were clearly what made Isis great.
