Reverb/Delay on Pedal Demo

Post by Boxbie »

I hate it when manufacturers are doing a demo for their distortion/fuzz/overdrive pedal, and use a ton of delay and reverb.

It fucking makes me sick.

Rant over.

Little bit of' verb is OK, especially if it is added after a decent dry demo.

sorry dude. just made a demo like that. 3 minutes of dry, 6 minutes with reverb.
i'm of the mindset that it's good to show it in different settings. :idk:

Ha ha!

Naw, I'm talking when you go to hear a pedal, and all you get is a mess of delay and reverb drenched 80's power soloing, with no recording of the guitar->pedal->amp.

You folks know what I'm talking about! :grumpy:

I kind of can't stand playing guitar without reverb... But delay is too overpowering on demos. The verb just fills a bit of the space and helps me not try to overplay.

Never an extra pedal though. Always good spring reverb. Tasty.

a little reverb is natural and IMO not a problem. some folks do really well with demos featuring verb/delay; Sylnau's demos spring immediately to ming. but the thing is that he uses the other gear to show how it AUGMENTS THE PEDAL HE'S DEMOING. on the other hand, there's a guitar reviewer (Jon Way, i think?) who ALWAYS uses high gain and chorus/flanging, which makes his guitar demos utterly useless and makes everything sound alike.

and +1000 on the dirt pedal/dirty amp thing. it drove me nuts when PGS Andy insisted on using the 65Amps Soho for a spate of demos...trying to pick out distortion from amp dirt was fucking infuriating.

not intending to be a dick, honestly just wondering whats the major appeal of demos? i dont get it really, i find them to be mostly misleading. i mean u aren't really ever sure u are getting a good representation of the actual sound.

i've noticed myself getting all OMG AMAZING at a demo, but in reality they just played a riff that I thought was cool. didnt actually have anything to do w/ the pedal itself.
and vice versa. shitty playing in the demo, think pedal is MEH, but in reality it could be really good, just not shown off to your specific personal taste.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Most of the "professional" demos tend to be pretty weak. I find the most value in the demos that folks around here post. Mostly because they tend to try the pedal, then toss it in with some of their other favorite sounds. (Excane is a good example there.)
