Replacing Guitar Tuners

Post by tuffteef »

sooooooo i may abit of a problem ive been schmoozing the interwebs for silvertone 1448 parts and the neck just arrived
and the tuners are known to be terrible *cough flat duo jets *cough*
i have a set of GFS 6 on a plate tuners around that are 15/16 spaced which is too large for the spacing of the silvertone

im trying to find stuff thats smaller but no luck so im looking for some alternatives or the best way of approaching the issue
would maybe like widening the holes work or something i dont know

anyone got any ideas?

also single tuners wont work cause the spacing is so close too and the beans touch

I came across one example of schallers being used:

and another of klusons (kind of a tight squeeze though):

Judging from those two pics I would say with some careful alignment you should be able to fit a new set on.

i decided to take the plunge and enlarge the holes to 10mm and use the random junk draw tuners as testers and it worked!
so im gonna nab some like tuners off GFS

im thinking about these

i think there are mini gotoh's that would fit.
wilkinson makes good hardware but i wouldn't buy GFS made tuners if you can avoid it. cheaper metal will wear out and GFS isn't really known for their quality hardware.
