Guitar cab build aka DOOM BOX DERBY (Updated!)
Over the past two weeks I've been building a 2x12 guitar cabinet with my grandpa. Since retiring he's really gotten into woodworking, and we thought building a guitar cab would be a fun project. We've previously built a mailbox for a photo essay assignment I had in high school. I'll update this thread with more pics as we progress.

Plywood sheet marked and ready to cut

Table saw action

Cut pieces waiting to be assembled

Attaching the side to the bottom. We're using pl premium construction adhesive and drywall screws in the joints

Sides, top, and back panels added

Dry fit of baffles

Grandpa cutting baffles with scroll saw

Chasis with baffles glued in

Rear view (pre-baffle install)

Clamping the freshly glued grill mounts

Clamping the glued grill frame after we had finished with the biscuit joiner

The hardest part by far was working with the baffles. Getting the angles and fit just right was definitely a struggle. Next week, we will begin applying the tolex and hardware.

Thanks guys. We're using the bill fitzmaurice xf212 guitar cab plans to build it.
Dovetail joints would've been a lot more work and it's rock solid as is with the butt joints and the construction grade polyurethane adhesive we're using. We (tenatively) plan on covering it with silver tolex and a black/blue grill cloth. For speakers, we're going to use a pair of 12-in. weber 65's

Tolex, grill, and speaker choices are all gonna rule!
And yeah, I don't know shit about woodwork really, just throwing that dovetail question out there for the hell of it.

Re: Guitar cab build (aka DOOM BOX DERBY)
Any reason for the angled baffle? I don't know much about cabs past open/closed back and that looks interesting. Looks like it will be hella cool though!

The plan designer claims that it helps with the dispersion of high and mid frequencies and reduces some comb filtering. I don't know about all that though...I think it might end up sounding like a regular cab. At the very least, it will look cool

Sure. There's a wait list though...I have a big family and he's always building furniture for everybody (dressers, chests, tables, chair,...)

Amazing choices on grill, tolex, and speakers! Can't wait to see the completed cab.
