Pedal into headphone interface?

So I recently picked up a Zoom G2 to play late at night through headphones. It doesn't sound terrible, but it's not very responsive to pick dynamics. If I ran the right type of pedal in front of it, would I be able to get the pedal's touch sensitivity and response to my guitar's volume knob to work with this digital interface?

I think you could get close with the right pedal/s. I think more what you'd be doing with what you're talking about is adding some of the color of the amp to a dynamically responsive pedal.

I'm probably going to go a similar route for a home setup soonish (after I sell all my exteraneous gear). I was looking more at running a preamp of my choosing (MEATSMOKE) into a mixer and then just plugging headphones into the mixer.

i recently picked up a pair of those Vox AmPhone (the fender twin one) pretty happy with it for practicing or plugging it into the output of a pedal.

Your headphones could be the issue too.

Also, i really like the midfi demo tape fuzz into my interface. You can set it clean, or a touch of dirt to fuzz. You'd be surprised, its perfect amp in a box with out even trying to be

I've got some pretty decent over the ear Auvio headphones. They're the best headphones I've used so far, but they're certainly no recording headphones, as they don't cancel outside noise very much.

The thing is, the G2's clean settings are ridiculously clean, and most of the drive settings are a little meh. Granted, I could just deal with it, as I usually play my regular tube setup during the day, but it would be nice if there was a pedal that was touch responsive and did the "british voicing thing well", as I've only taken to one distortion setting, and all the "Marshall" and fuzz ones suck pretty bad.

The clean settings aren't particularly colored, so I was hoping that one of them would be a decent platform for one of those "amp in a box" type pedals.

I may bring it in to a store and see how it reacts to pedals. I was thinking something along the lines of a Catalinbread DLS3, one of those Tech 21 pedals, or an AMT preamp modelling pedal. Thoughts?

Seems like no one got the question... The thing with those multi-effects that that some of the sounds may be great by themselves but the presets try to throw them all together to show off what it can do... To get some usable sounds you are going to have to start with all the effects on a patch off and then try and build up from there... It sounds like you might be having issues with the compressor setting so I would tweak that or turn it off and see if that helps you achieve the sounds you are looking for... Taking it to a store to try pedals couldn't hurt but keep in mind since you have no way to really route the pedal into the chain wherever you want it's always going to be in front of all the other effects and that may not be the best position... A dirt pedal into your G2 with just a cabinet model and some delay or reverb might work also... PM me if you wanna talk bout this jank...

I had the chance to run a dirt pedal into it tonight, it didn't blow up my headphones or anything like that, but it definitely didn't sound very good.

Not good in what way? Like, did it sound like you were pushing an amp or did it sound like you were pushing turds?

Also, are you using the G2 as an at-home practice amp sort of thing? If you're trying to get it to behave like an amp I'd definitely do Sonidero's suggestion and dig through those settings to make sure there's not some sort of weird compression or equalization or other effect going on. Then I think it might sound pretty ok running pedals into it. If you've already done this then... the G2 might not be a good multi pedal to do this sort of thing with.

Yeah, I have one of those too. It's a lot more hifi than my actual amp. In my experience it doesn't handle much gain as well as I would hope but modulation/delays/reverbs are pretty great through. I use it when it's like past 11. I've used it to record too and it works fine but i'm not picky or know anything about anything

The G2 didn't distort, but the pedal sounded thin and shrill, instead of fuzzy and warm. I had a similar issue when I was still running SS amps with a big muff. It sounded much softer and less abrasive through the tube amp I upgraded to. I may just part ways with the G2 sooner or later and pick up a Blackstar HT-5 or something. It didn't sound too sterile last time I played one, and they've got some kind of headphone setup. Might be worth a shot.

Yup, the problem's not the concept, a virtual amp that you can wail on at night. It's the quality of the one you have. Something like that Korg Pandora or a Line 6 POD look promising for this sort of thing, but I haven't tried one personally.

I've said it before but if you want an "AMP" to play on at night just get whatever is cheap on CL with a Headphone out and either separate the head and speaker or just disconnect the speaker from the head and JAM AWAY!!! Cheap Amps have an advantage over digital stuffs cause one they are AMPS and two they are AMPS...
