Verellen and Dunwich are both damned serious about their bass amps, whereas most boutique guitar amp builders don't really know what they're doing in that domain. Hi-Tone will do you a DR-201 clone or variant. Orange's current AD-200 is not as well built as the older. Don't know enough about Matamp to comment on theirs.

It is kind of nice that there are a lot of mid-range production tube bass amps out about now. Traynor, Ampeg, Peavey, Bugera, and the new Fender offerings come to mind. It seems Boogie is all hybrid these days, but I could be wrong.

Hiwatt Bass clone = Reeves

Oh and Mesa Boogie does have 3 all tube amps.

I have an Orange AD200B, and I dig it.

this was more a post made out of curiosity than a post about anything I'd actually want

like there's tons of really high end replicas of marshall plexis and jcm 800s

I was just wondering if anybody actually had a company that's as dedicated to replicating the bass amp (subjective I know, but look at any band that's not super into gear or anything and their bass palyer is using an ampeg svt or whatever) as much as others are for guitar amps

that bugera is similar to what I was wondering about but they're not really that boutique, you can buy em from musicians friend

Cause guitarists are the Lawyers and Dentists and Anesthesiologists and make the bling and they get their buddies who are carpenters and cooks and electricians and retail middle mgmt. and office drones to play bass and drums and they just need shit that works...

Not really. Most of the bass corksniffers go for uber-hi-fi solid state amps like Glockenklang and the higher-end Genz Benz stuff, and things like that. It's mostly the old school guys who are playing SVTs.

I fall into neither category, because I play my bass through the Bugera plexi clone

I've totally contemplated it. I've done my share of amp modding with my own amps, it's a whole different world from building pedals. I'd love to build amps one day, that would rule. Just gotta do some learning :snax:

I'll take a Dirge tube amp that gets loud as fuck and has a gnarly dirt channel. 300 watts. Or, y'know, more.

Thanks. <3
