I've always held the opinion that one should just buy as many dirt cheap 4x12s off of CL as possible. If you have two or four, you'll be fine.

^ That is some really solid logic!

If you're relying on one or two smaller cabs and you love the rest of your setup, I say go for something nice and or custom to get exactly what you're after. Otherwise, let loose on CL and gather. Cabs come cheap out there cuz everyone wants the local deal to avoid shipping.

So I ended up scooping a marshall jcm 800 lead angled cab for 350. It sounds a bit brighter than the 900 cab I played but not overwhelmingly bright. I can feel the lows - there nice and controlled and the mids are tiiiigght. So far, I'm nice and happy with my purchase.

heres a pic of it in action (or soon to be in action) - its all lonely by itself but it sure does scream.

I took the badges off because I like the aesthetic of all black and the white lining stripes. I also tried the 800 and 900 together and it was a nice wall. MOOOAAARR CAAABBBSSSSS.

Marshall cabs suck a lot less than the current used market would have you indicate.

SICK DUDE!!!! I had that exact speak3r cab! I bought it with an Ampeg VL-1002 after trying out the head with just about every cab in the used gear store. It won out against Mesa's, Marshall's (including a 69' with vintage greenbacks), Ampeg's, literally everything in there I plugged it into. Those cabs just have such a nice tight and thick low end with a sweet top end all mashed together. And it was the cheapest of the group I tried!
