Hells yeah, I loved the zoom for lower gain stuff when I had it. Really versatile pedal that one.

Lately I sometimes use a PTD minibone for overdrivish tones. It works pretty well in that application. However, I still prefer amp OD.

Has anyone tried putting a tube screamer in front of a fuzz pedal? It's an interesting combo. The fuzz provides the "meat" for the tone while the ts tightens up the bottom end significantly.

It's a great way to get a real heavy tone if you're downtuning and don't want to get a lot of flub.

Unless ya know, butch wants to do a trade for a mini? :)

Well I certainly wouldn't mind picking up a Mini to try out and see how I gel with it, but for now, the Crimson Drive is going to be a keeper for me. It really pairs up nicely with the pedz I already have, and also works well as a general stand-alone dirt unit. I will say that the tone control doesn't provide a lot of variability - I think it passes all low frequencies and just attenuates the highs - but that's not a big issue.

My Muff clone is the only fuzz I have that doesn't mind so much if it goes after a buffered pedal, and I'm not huge on that sound so I don't futz with it much. I could see that working, though, with the TS pushing the mids that would otherwise be scooped while rolling off excess bass.

Hmm. The Siamese Dream sound was Distortion 2 in front of an IC Muff, right?

i know im late buuuuuut
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/zrobertez/the-algal-bloom-overdrive[/soundcloud]

So here is the algal set pretty overdrive-y. In person it sounds fairly similar to my amp. My amp gets brighter as it overdrives and the algal has a little more "texture" to it so that's most of the differences. I usually run it with more gain than that but I tried to set it close to my amp. And they sound totes boss together. idk. It's a shitty demo cause I had to use my iphone (i normally do direct in if I want to be not lofi)

and both run great with flanger btw :)

Oh yeah that zRobertez guy, everyone knows him... Tom can make the Algal with just the Germ option (choke) or a 5 way selector or an 8 way... All the modes are great but the Germ really does it for me...
