Peavey has made a bunch of really awesome cabs. I loved my old 4x12 with Sheffields in it, and anything with black widows usually sounds amazing.

Does anyone have any experience with an ampeg 15inch speaker for bass? The bass player in my band is looking to add one to his 4x12 avatar neo. More is better, right!??

If you want a good 412 for doom on the cheap, I would see if a Marshall Mode 4 comes up on your local CL for the usual $350-400 1960a/b cab price. The Mode 4 is a bit bigger built and loaded with Celestion K-100's, which have very good headroom and deep bass. They don't often come up, but when they do they go fast.

I'm definitely in need of some deep bass but still some fizz for a bite of staticky definition. Low mids are cool too but id rather have that dark, slightly muddy sound. When I used the jcm 900 cab I was surprised how much more accurate of an interpretation of the sound I was going for. It was really dark, bassy, yet controlled, not like my old cab which sounds like it is going to explode from the low end, not a good kind of explosion just flubby balldick explosions.

I'm not all opposed to having 15s. It's just that it never heard it for myself, I must try it before coming to a conclusion but I'm more inclined to be swayed toward a 4x12. Maybe I just need the sound of the 15s to open my eyes to a new realm. I am always in favor of the "unconventional".

if you liked the sound of that marshall, then you're in luck, you can get them for $3-400 all day long. no need to go buy a fancy boutique thing if that's the sound you're going for. i think speakers are far more important than the cab, but every emperor i've heard is definitely brighter than a marshall 1960. of course i've never heard an emperor with the celestion 75's in it. not a speaker that's normally paired with boutique cabs. but those marshalls are great for the money, particlularly if you're going for a darker sounding cab. i've rocked one for years, though i put vintage 30's in mine a little while ago.

Totally this. If you like the G12T-75s, Craigslist is your oyster. I've run across small scale amp builders who have made the choice to design and tune their amps to those Marshall cabs because they are cheap, plentiful, and you can actually mostly expect one if you specify it on a gig rider.

Yeah I really liked the darkness of the Marshall's. maybe I could go with one or just get a cab and load them with some darker sounding speakers. I see a vader 2x12 up on CL for $350. Anyone have any experience with a vader?

I ran my Peavey 2x15 with my Sovtek for guitar pretty regularly. It sounded awesome, especially for lower tuned stuff. Not a lot of high-end, which you should probably expect.

That sounds like shilling, but I've always used bass cabs for guitar (since I play bass).

Emperor 4x10 just popped up for 500 bux. Idk about ten inchers for guitar though for what I am going for, but that seems like a nice price.
