Re: fuzz for overdrive
Yes I do it all the time. The Tone Machine and the Hair of the Dog can both do overdrive-y stuff when you turn the fuzz down most of the way. And it sounds even better through an overdriving amp.

Yerp!
The Pharaoh, Supercollider, Centurion, W&C Tall Font and Demo Tape Fuzz are all great a lower gains.
You could also try some passive clipping at the front of the chain. That's where I use the Mountainking P.O. Box.
The passive clipping thing is SUPER EASY to DIY too!
Yup. I used to used a W&C TFR on a low gain setting as an overdrive for bass. Sounded delicious. I love fuzz as overdrive.
At the moment, I find myself wishing I had a second TAFM to use at a lower gain setting because I think it would sound awesome.

Re: fuzz for overdrive
A fuzz face with the knobs at about 2/3 of the way up is really OD sounding but if the knobs are turned any further it immediately becomes way fuzzier.

Yep, I use that quite a lot to boost fuzzes set on low gain into proper fuzz territory, the treble boost really kicks the ass of any dirt after it whether amp or pedal. Or the bass boost if it's set that way, boosts things in a really different way. Sounds like that or maybe a different dirty boost might suit you pretty well for stacking with fuzz.

Re: fuzz for overdrive
Yes, I have been doing this since receiving a Fulltone '69 in a trade.
Cleans up better than than any other dirt I've used; while maintaining touch sensitive, dynamic response.
I now understand the germanium ff hype.
First in my signal chain, I use it alone as a gritty boost/od/fuzz keeping guitar vol rolled back most of the time...and especially when stacking into a Green Russian muff, seeking opportune moments to fully open guitar vol pot for an uppercut of fuzz fury.
Being able to gradually (and effortlessly) go from open & dynamic fuzz tone to compressed, high gain madness?
This is definitely where I parked my car.

A lot of good advice in this thread.
Also a harmonic percolator -specially with the diodes lifted- does a great overdrive sound.

True, forgot about that. I like it better with the diodes lifted, especially when stacked into another fuzz.

Re: fuzz for overdrive
As mentioned earlier the Algal is my fave but all the Fuzzhuggers clean up really well and except for the wilder ones all maintain a good Overdrive sound at low settings... The BEST is the Magic Meter which is a sleeper... Two gain and clipping stages with EQ and it can go to triple freq at the flip of a switch...

Re: fuzz for overdrive
The TAFM will also do the overdrive thing pretty nicely. Thanks to the blend knobs, you can get light OD if you play around with it enough.

Interested. Which harm perc clones have a switch for bypassing the clipping?

I was going to say the same thing! (re: Rangemaster)
The Sparkle Motion is not a clone. I found it to be pretty different sounding from the clone that I made. It's a great pedal of course!
Casavettes if you want you can borrow my Rangemaster to see if you like it. It's not for sale but you can check it out
