One of the speakers has been replaced with a Jensen C10Q, and the other three are original. Sounds like one has got some voice coil rub, so I may go to the old 2x2 with 2 originals and 2 (something else). Only jammed it for an hour or so, and the Jensen sounds ok I guess...I could get another one but wondering what else peeps might recommend for use in an open back 10" configuration...
i just got my Kalamazoo Bass 30 back from the shop. it has the original 10" Jensens in a closed cabinet and has enough bass to kill small animals. what are the original speakers? my general tendency is to stick relatively close to the amp's original personality when picking speakers, e.g. i probably wouldn't put Greenbacks in a Fender Twin.

They are CTS or Eminence with 10 oz. square magnets, I believe the magnets are ceramic... I'm with you on staying close to original with respect to specs. I replaced similar speakers in a closed back ampeg cab with eminence legends which made the cab sound 10x better...although the originals still worked fine, they just didn't sound great. These aren't identical but are close. The VT40 is shallow and the amp chassis prevents you from putting anything much deeper than the originals, so anything more than 4" tall isn't going to fit anyway. When I looked, I saw a couple from Weber and Jensen that seemed like decent approximations, 35 watt speakers with alnico or ceramic magnets, there's actually several choices. Just looking for some input as to what folks like...
Gotcha. The one replacement in there already is a C10Q, which has been mentioned as a suitable replacement. I may try another so it's two Jensens and two OG 10"s...

Not really on The topic, but i had also The Impression that one of my speaker makes Strange sound. Cross checked amp and speakers with other ones and it turned out, that The jj el84 (brand New) were making those sounds. Just want to say, make sure it is really The speaker.
anyone ever put guitar-voiced 10" drivers in a bass cabinet? i have an old bandmate's Ampeg 4X10" cab. it doesn't sound very good with the bass speakers in it for (low tuned) guitar, but i'm tempted to fill it with different speakers.
