Replacement bridges for Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster?

Post by backwardsvoyager »

Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find much info though.
Anyway, I gigged my squier jazzy (which I absolutely love) for the first time tonight and the low E string popped out about 4 or 5 times during a 20 minute performance... (I guess I'm pretty heavy handed)
I didn't think I'd have that problem with the tune-o-matic style bridge but turns out its a massive pain in the ass
Alas, I was hoping somebody here would be able to point me towards a suitable replacement bridge (cheaper is better but I can stretch I guess). I know Mastery make one but I'd have to enlarge the pickguard holes and also $$$$$$$$.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Mustang bridge works well for me on my jaguar
But I don't know how much less string will slip vs the TOM bridge

try a Gretsch bar bridge. seriously, they hold strings in position better than anything, and they drop right on to the narrower ("Nashville") Tunomatic posts.

As far as i know the mustang bridge is only a drop-in replacement for the normal jag/jazz models and would require modification to fit on mine. Otherwise I'd be going that route most likely!

Thanks for the suggestion! I ordered a cheap roller tune-o-matic to see how that fares, if it doesn't stop the popping a bar bridge is next on the list!
Really don't want to shell out $200 for a mastery (what it will cost me with the thimbles and intl shipping)

Updating this so as to help anyone with the same question later on

The roller TOM I ordered arrived and was a perfect fit, didn't need to change the posts and the intonation was actually pretty much perfect before any adjustment!
The grooves are much deeper than on the stock bridge and none of the strings seem willing to pop out no matter hard i thrash it, haven't gigged it yet but so far so good. I'll update again if there's any problems down the line.
It was this one for reference: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/190515206714?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
