These videos are easily the coolest part about this whole thing. Love this approach to leaking/building hype.

Dunno if any of you guys know, but the whole thing's been leaked.

First listen... it's sexy. Like... there's no other way to actually describe it all the way through other than really, really sexy.

There's a track called Smooth Sailing, I think it got me pregnant.

So I listened to it and to be honest I'm not sure how I feel about it. I know I don't like it but I'm not sure I really dislike it either. Overall it sounds like Josh's "Hey, I'm like middle aged and shit now" album and while that's not really a bad thing it's not the QOTSA I want (and that definition is very broad). The song writing is fairly pleasant but it doesn't have any teeth.

Yeah, I'm kind of conflicted on this one. It does feel like a mid-life crisis album.

Feels like all the bland B-Sides off of the Desert Sessions were just thrown together.

You're not wrong but I actually have a bit of a soft spot for Era Vulgaris because I thought that the general aesthetic was a cool idea. The whole creepy and dissonant guitars mixed with slick vocal harmonies and a minor return of robot rock was really cool they just didn't a) take it nearly far enough and b) make sure it wasn't a fucking mess and it definitely didn't have to be, Josh obviously just had the urge to make it all pretty in the wrong spots (pretty much all of them). Lullabies on the other hand was a bunch of stupid bluesy wank off, I don't want anything to do with it. Them Crooked Vultures? Errrr... don't give a shit :idk: .

I've only heard the first half on my drive to work today and I liked what I heard. Def some great ideas but seems like some of those ideas weren't 100% formed or utilized like they could've been. Granted that's my opinion after one listen to only 5 songs during a shitty morning rush hour traffic work commute so I shouldn't even be commenting yet. Plan to keep this one on a steady rotation until I can make an informed decision.

I can't get into that new track... I love their earlier stuff. Maybe I'll give it a listen tomorrow and like it, though.

They're a much different band now, we all just have to get over it. I'm not any happier about it than the rest of you...

Exactly.

That's been the case for a long time too.

I've listened to the new album non stop for the last few days. It's a very dark trip. Unnerving and meloncholy...unlike anything they've ever done. Definitely a grower. Queens has always been the Josh Homme show, and this record feels like a mid-life crisis. I can relate...it's fucking with my head. The lyrics are fantastic.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled, My God is the Sun, and I Appear Missing are standouts. Hard to imagine if/how they'll incorporate the more meloncholy songs into their live show.
