yes i know i could just insure everything and file a claim but with some gear (vintage stuff, custom stuff) it'd be a bitch to replace.

anyone incorporated theft tracking in their gear?
i've gotten fairly paranoid about taking gear out due to hearing of thefts. curious about incorporating some tracking device(s) so i can GPS where my stuff is if it winds up happening to me. know there are tons of gadgets out there doing so with cars, but i'm hoping for something smaller / easier to conceal, and something i don't have to pay some BS monthly fee for...

First I would write down the serial numbers (if applicable) of all of your gear and take photos of it for reference. Lock the numbers and photos up in a safe place so you have them for reference. I know that Sonic Youth did it and had some mixed results, but it couldn't hurt, you know?

If you've got spare scratch, something like this?
http://www.amazon.com/MicFirst-Mini-GPS ... B0093ZEP5Y
Tape it inside your amp/guitar case/a pedal?

Re: anyone incorporated theft tracking in their gear?
theres this ghetto diy lojack thing fir your wheels
where you buy a cheap burner phone
hhardwire the charger into or behind the glovebox
most have gps stuff
so as long as you dont make calls on it
and keep the service active
you can spend lke $10 every 6 months
prob is even if you wired it to your cab or head
and hid it real well
its not gonna be charging as much
maybe just make a hiding spot in yer spensive stuff
and throw one in when you take it out the house
the more i write
the worse of an idea it sounds
i can barely keep my phone goin
let alone a second gear phone
yeah do the diy dna mod
put a sign says "i came on this"

Re: anyone incorporated theft tracking in their gear?
This is a little cheaper, but it's a still a little expensive to be popping inside of ALL one's pedals, guitars, amps, etc.

Re: anyone incorporated theft tracking in their gear?
NICE. i'd want a few of 'em, $150 to cover three cases & what's inside would be great. i'm just thinking this whole scenario on when taking gear out for gigs, not while it's in my studio.
