Ditto here. The DM1 is perfect for programming a drum track for songs.

Some 'outside the box' drum machine like apps are Werkbench, and Yellofier. They aren't traditional drum machine apps but they're pattern based and you can use your own samples. DM1 is probably the safest bet though. It will get the job done.

Rebirth still rocks 15+ years after its inception; and is even better with the touchscreen interface.

Cool. Glad you like it. I'm still playing with it. The app is a little odd but I enjoy it.

Don't get iMaschine, I got it first thought it was awesome, then downloaded DM1 and deleted iMaschine.

Def get audiobus and pair DM1 with multitrack or samplr

I have iMaschine as well which is nice too, juste another animal than DM1. DM1 is much more drums oriented when iMaschine is more about sampling and using these samples to build a a rythm as well as a melody... DM1 is cheaper anyway.

+1 for funkbox. it's got the best vintage drum machines (808,909, lindrumm)
but it might not be what you are after since those drum machines don't actually sound like acoustic drums and are better for dance/electronic music.
