ATTTNNNNNNN EGC OWNERRRRRS: have any of you taken the back plate off of yours? im wanting to rewire it to a normal 4-knob gibson style circuit rather than the "blend circuit" that kevin shipped it out with, but i have no idea what to expect when taking out the screws on this back plate.....i feel like it will just unravel and piece apart on top of my bed...haha. im hoping in doing this, it will fix a problem im having where i will roll back the volume knob and lose pretty much all of my tone (where as when i do this with my iceman that DOESNT have a blend circuit, i can roll back and still maintain tone.)

I've played 2 ( mine and a friend's) both seemed to have the severe volume drop after 6-7 on the dial.

For those that own one, do you find that p90s in these guitars are just too bright? I'm saving up to buy one and I'm worried that p90s would just be an icepick in your ear. Thoughts?

Also, thought I'd share this. I sent this dude an email and asked him if he could make a ric shape and he said "we can do anything but a ric. They get a little bit emotional when you copy their shapes." which I thought was a great line.

i have an all aluminum series II, those are usually wood body hybrids, with p90s but i use flat wound strings on it. its deep and mellow yet bold. im not sure how it would sound with rounds as i usually put flats on my guitars anyway. :idk:

Their single coils aren't P90s. I think they may be based on Travis Bean single coils.
They're incredibly loud and clear. I have the full metal body with a baritone neck and there's not a hint of ice pick at all.
In fact, I find them very well balanced.
I think Skullservant can attest to them as well.

I've got a set of EGC P90's in my Obstructures guitar. I do believe they are P90's, but constructed with steel base plates and Alnico magnets, which seem to give them about 3x the output of a regular p90 (comparing to my Phat Cat bridge P90 in my other guitar). They are wound to be a little hot, but not SUPER hot. The neck pickup has a little bit of a growl/bite to it but they aren't naturally distorting. They are VERY full sounding, incredibly clear (honestly the clearest I've played), and pick up details very very well. Being in an all aluminum guitar, they have zero hum. They are bright, but not ice picky. I attest this to the nature of the aluminum guitar moreso than the pickups themselves, though. I will say that my guitar does not have a tone control though, so it's just 100% straight up pickup -> 500k volume pot -> output.

It's funny, last night I was comparing both of my guitar's pickups and I ended up raising the Phat Cat to be closer to the strings to try to match the output of the EGC pickups. I got it to be about half as loud haha

I've got a standard baritone with the single coils in both positions and I'd say they're my favourite pickups and favourite sounding guitar for sure. Bright and clear but not ice picky, really well balanced between lows and highs, very full and big sounding. If I could get another EGC I'd hope for the same pickups, they're really nice.

Dude, just saw this on FB and raced over here thinking it had to be yours! Same thing happened with my Chessie awhile back, saw some bodies posted after returning from being anodized but noticed the f-holes and control cavities were different, not my Chessie. Was like the highest of highs to the lowest of lows all in one brief moment haha.

Yep I did! And yeah, Kev will sell you just the pickups. If I didn't send it down for the fret job I would have just have Kevin mail them to me!
