Damn the thing I like about mine is the pickup selection and if I did one pickup I would just do a humbucker in the neck and have the volume knob in the rear... Kinda like a reverse of yours...
Let me know if you replace the tuners or bridge... Mine sounds sick through Fuzz and 2x15s...

Re: I modded my Blacktop Baritone
debating throwing the stock bridge pickup back in. this Virtual PAF might sound 'too good'. the stock pup didn't sound all that great on it's own, but it had a real focus in the mids that i think i might miss. the new pickup is more full frequency. sounds better when i play alone, but doesn't cut as well in a two guitar band.
i might wait a bit to get a bit more life out of this set of strings. i'm cheap & hate to waste a set after only two band practices.

If you're using Ernie Balls they'll last a while. If it's D'Addarios, don't worry - a rehearsal or two and they're dead as wood.

Re: I modded my Blacktop Baritone
i think i am finally mostly completely happy with this guitar (until i decide to replace the tuners & saddles).
after several pickup swaps, i ended up with a Baby '71 HB sized wide range humbucker made by The Creamery. i also stuck on that big knob that i harvested from an old, broken centrifuge at work.

very middy. rolled off lows & ultra highs. sounds like someone carved out everything but the 'cut through the mix' frequencies & designed a pickup for just that. works perfectly for my needs.

love the pickup. it's basically a hot P90 in a humbucker sized package.
some of that 'wear' is dust.

for picks, though, i have been using these for around ten years:
