Music videos.....eh?

Am I the only one who thinks that music video ideas aren't very original anymore? Or am I just being grumpy? Can anyone think of any really cool ones right now?

I think for the most part music videos have gotten kind of irrelevant.
Personally I'd rather either watch something, or listen to music. At least on a digital front. In real life it's a different experience.
Off the top of my head I can't think of anything that blows my mind.

I much prefer just listening to music, and normally if I stick a music video on I'll stop watching it and do something else while I listen to the song.

I think there are very few instances where I have watched a recent music video the whole way through. I think it's especially hard to take most music videos seriously without finding a bit of cheese in them, but for something like a post rock band with no words, having a visual is really the only way that I find myself enjoying a music video nowadays

Agreed. Unless it's just a boring collage of shit like flying birds and the ocean and telephone poles.

Actually, now that I think of it, there are a few Sigur Ros videos that I really like. And I guess I enjoy some performance videos if the editing isn't too "Extreme."

I dunno, I suspect that like anything, you need to dig for the good stuff. I remember a few years back there was a great music video aggregation site that I checked regularly, and there was some beautiful stuff out there.

Of course, then I totally stopped checking, and can't remember the name of the site anymore.

That said, most of the time I prefer to listen than to watch. But with anything, there's always going to be an example or two that's so good that justifies the artform for a while.

yeah i got to sit in on an interview with them about the making of this video. they seemed to just have fun with it, as you can tell, and it's not really taken too seriously. which is basically how i see music videos. most of them don't make sense, so might as well just make it weird.

but i agree with everything said, i'd rather just listen or watch a video of the band actually playing the song.
