I know jack shit about compressors buy I've seen Dave from Minus The Bear have great success live with the Barber Tone Press.

As for my own experience, I recently tried the EQD Warden and it was really great but I have nothing much to compare it to. Sounded good, small, lots of control to really dial it in, and intuitive design to manage those controls.

I use compressors as boosters. 2-3 knobs? MAX EVERYTHING. Sometimes I bring it down a little if I want to actually use compression for something other than squashing the fuck out of everything and boosting it.

but don't listen to me cuz i don't use it on guitar/bass. i just pump beats, drums, machines, gameboys, synths thru them!

That's cool. Can you use the compressor as a transient master? Do you have the VFE White Horse. I like VFE alot. Would you say it is quality because VFE stuff is cheaper oftentimes than other options.
...or something...

apologies, but what you mean by transient master?

i do hae the white horse and i love it. definately seems like a solid quality build. i have chatted with the VFE dude and he was very friendly and helpful. the drive on it is particularlly tasty. i think its way better than the philosophers tone drive.
it kinda reminds me of a dyna comp in terms of dirtiness, but with alot more versatility. squash it to bits...bring that blend back in ooooweeeeeeee

I had the keeley 2-knob for a while. Sold it on a whim and picked up a Boss CS-2. Probably the best pedal move I've made, it's a fixture for sure - absolutely amazing on bass, surprisingly nice on guitars as well!

I have an ART PRO-VLA. Can't remember if it's I or II. Cheap rack tube compressor, but after a tube swap it sounds pretty good. I haven't had a lot to compare it to though. I don't like compressed guitar. I use it to even out my terrible vocals, and squash my drum machines.

Wait, how many pedals you have multiples of? Somehow it feels my avatar would be far more appropriate for you by now.

Transient master lets you work with attack, envelope really though not a filter so much. I think Cryosonic made the standard.

ah okay i get what you are saying now.

no i dont think so, atleast not in the traditional sense. the blend and the response will allow you to tailor the attack/preserve your dynamics.
but u cant mess with the actual attack like on a transient master.
probably will get you most of the way there tho. and maybe not even a noticeable difference, but they are not the same concepts i dont think.
