Short Scale Bass Strings??? Squier Jag SS Content...

Post by sonidero »

I got this BADD ASS JSS BASS but it's got wimpy roundwound strings... Does anyone else own one of these??? Does anyone have experience with Short Scale 30" Bass Strings??? I saw some 50-100 Rotosound Flats but I think the wrap at the top runs into the nut, they're too short... Any advice on Short Scale Flats would be appreciated and acted upon and later followed up with pics... Thanks... :p

The short and medium scale string selection is so fucking weak I can hardly believe it! Not much knowledge on flatwounds but even the round core options are way limited but some guys cut 'em regardless and have no issues. I've seen trouble in person when I watched a brand new low string unwrap because it was clipped on the double wound section. I thought I was in trouble when I got a 32" scale Reverse Jag recently buy luckily they also reversed the headstock designating the furthest posts for the lowest strings. As a result, regular bass strings fit perfectly.

Measure the distance from your bridge to the E and A string tuning posts, then hit up Jason at Bass Strings Online. That dude is super helpful, all he'll need are those measurements and he'll tell you exactly what strings will work. I think 34" is about the max limit for the low string on a short scale. Anything longer usually won't work. Flatwounds could be different altogether....

I ended up getting some 50-105 D'Addario Short Scales for $20 and they seem to be cool so far... I've had Flat on my Precision for so long I figured I stick with them but I realized that the SS Jag needed some punch so I went with rounds... I had to lower the action a lil cause of the thicker gauges but through the Magic Meter and Elements into my Peavey MarkIV and 2x15's IT KILLS!!!
